That's part of the point.  The thing with folk and power metal is that the lyrics are intentionally cheese-fests, but the artistic point is the music capabilities of the artist.  For example, Keeper of the Seven Keys was the best display of Kiske's vocal range and stability backed by expression while showing the extent of the rest of the band at the time.  The problem with these bands is that while they might get a guy who has the ability to due certain things he might not be the best full musician leaving him as an instrument.  Kiske is an amazing singer to the extent of an instrument, but the guy can't write a song to save his life let alone properly express the songs of the people who wrote them for him like Tobias Sammet, Michael Weikath, Dennis Ward, and/or Kai Hansen.  I have to give Helloween respect for being able to express through own music through different styles while poking fun at their own music with Deris.

 

I will have to agree that the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums are some of the best metal albums ever released. Both of them are phenomenal.

 

And I don't mean to bash the musicianship of any of the bands. Power metal can be extremely hard to play and folk metal can be really hard to compose. 

A guy like Jens Johansson from Stratovarius is a much better musician than I can ever dream of becoming. The man is a genius with a keyboard. 

But I just can't stop focusing on the lyrics. When you hear song number 14,936 about killing a dragon or drinking with a troll, it gets really cheesy.
