My PC draws 200W at idle

PatrikYT_98

My PC draws 200W at idle. I'm only running chrome, discord and some programs. My cpu usage is 7% and gpu is 3%. What can be causing the idle power draw to be so high?

My computer is currently idle at 240w. (simply using chrome and downloading a game) If you have something like a chrome book, then there might be a problem. If you have something like the last gen processor or graphics card, its probably normal.

While I can't say definitely, I think that high performance parts have a natural high idle power consumption.

I dont monitor my idle watts, but what you described is also...not idle.  Discord, Chrome and those some other programs are doing stuff in the background, as well as Windows doing little things in the background (even if you arent clicking anything)

Turn on PC, close everything not required to run windows, measure draw from socket and report back

I mean, I'm not doing a lot, but I'm still using the computer, so it's going to draw. If I put it on power saver, I can get it down to 150, but... I have no desire to do that.

Are all the idle power states enabled?

What is the software reporting for cpu + gpu power consumption

Yea thats why its using so much power. That cpu is using 80w, and the gpu is using 50w. THat system also dpesn't seem to be clocking dwon for idle.

What programs are running on the system?

You made me check my meter and it says 10.2W.. and thats accounting for 3 monitors and my PC at idle... I think it broke.

EDIT: Shut things down and unplugged it, plugged everything back. Now its ~145W which sounds more realistic!
