A less expensive case and psu will easily get you within budget. But I think you can do much better.

Hey there, there are a couple of suggestions I would make especially if your only going to out in 16GBram but first an M-ATX board like the Gigabyte B550M would be a better starting point and fit easier in your Mid-ATX case, it would also still support up to 128GB, and is a little cheaper. Secondly the Ram itself the ones you chose are nice RGB but you can save another $20-30 by going for something like Crucial's Ballistic 2x8GB DDR4-3200.

Your SSD isn't a bad shout but I don't know why you wouldn't go M.2, both Crucial's P1 and WDBlue come in at less than your 2.5" for the same 1TB.

Finally your PSU, if you go semi or non modular you can get the same 80+ Gold standard for considerably less, I found a 600w for $65 but you wouldn't even need that much power. So that could save you in the region of $50-80ish which you could then upgrade to a better GPU like the Radeon RX 5500 ( actually about the same as 1660) or even their 580, (Hell, if your really lucky you could even stretch to a Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 which is listed at just $850 but that's a little doubtful) or you could push your CPU to a 5600X, depending what you want to ultimately do with the rig.

I know I'm a bit late to this, @C2Z2 (i'll let people guess where I found out about this thread lol, hint: ), but if I was building a new PC right now, with GPU prices the way they are (and if I didn't need super high performance like a 3080 or whatever) I would go with an APU, and buy a GPU later when prices are hopefully more reasonable.

 

My current daily driver is a 5+ year old Clevo P750DM-G (same as Sager NP9753 iirc) laptop with a 970M 6GB, i7-6700K, 64GB RAM, 1TB WD Blue & 2TB Samsung Barracuda 120 2.5" SATA and 1&2TB Silicon Power P34A80 NVMe SSDs.  For my current use the GPU is too powerful (most games I play are older), but the CPU & RAM are super inadequate.  Desktop is 6+ years old, with an i7-4790K, ASRock Z97 Extreme6, HD 4600 (have a 1060 3GB but it's not installed right now), 32GB RAM, 1TB 870 Evo SSD, several 8-14TB NAS/enterprise HDDs, Corsair AX760, Fractal Design Define R5, that gets occasional use for some things.  Planning to upgrade the desktop hopefully around late 2022 or so when DDR5 is out & things are reasonably priced.

When I built my desktop in January 2015, I didn't get a GPU, I just used the one on the 4790K, which was good enough for most of the gaming I was doing.  I got my 1060 (3GB) in November 2016.  (It's not installed right now cause I was having some issues with display cables and my Dell U2414H monitor, and found that using an HDMI cable from the on-board port (so using the HD 4600 graphics) is working.  I did get an Asus VG289Q Q4'20 but I'm using that with my laptop.)

I'm running the Hyper 212 Evo in a Fractal Design Define R5 case, currently with the side panels off for easier access to the internals.

Just did a Cinebench R23 run, and it hit 92°C on the hottest core at stock settings.  From what I've observed, less demanding applications usually only get up into the 60s, maybe 70s °C at stock settings, last I remember.  Also earlier versions of Cinebench, like R15, could run around 70°C or so I think, and could get about 4.7 GHz with little effort or 4.8 GHz by pushing the voltage a bit (and getting higher temps).

(Also it would be better to make this its own topic in either the CPUs or Cooling subforum; also the 4790K is several years old now, you'd probably be better off with a much newer CPU.  I use a Clevo laptop with an i7-6700K for travel use - have it undervolted so under normal use it stays under about 65-70°C or so under load.)
