What's Wrong with Windows 8?

I seem to be the only person on planet earth that actually likes Windows 8/8.1.  I've always heard people talk about how bad Windows 8 is, and how Windows 7 is miles better.  I definitely enjoy Windows 7 as a solid and reliable OS, don't get me wrong.  I personally stay away from the start screen and stay on the desktop and so the start screen doesn't bother me.

I've never really gotten a solid list of things people don't like about windows 8, so lets start a discussion in the comments about the Pros and Cons of Windows 8.

There is nothing wrong with 8.1. Windows 7 fanboys just like to complain

Just personal opinion I guess. Or bandwagon :P Either way I stick with my belief that 8.1 is superior :P

I don't really have anything to say about it. I just haven't used it yet.

before people fixed the stupid new interface and gave us back the start button people had issues with it, tho if you know how to use your computer the new system is actually way faster as you just type in what you want and hit enter

I love 8.1 on my Surface Pro 2, hate it on my dad's laptop. Without touch the interface is just obnoxious; everything is geared towards you using touch to do everything, so when you don't you're stuck waving the mouse pointer around trying to bring up certain menus (or more often than not, bringing them up unintentionally). Windows 8 should have been called "Windows Touch" or something - on the desktop it's an abomination.

I haven't used it much, but there's some slight aesthetics changes that just irk me.  I'll probably get it for my new build and try it then. If not I have a 7 key to fall back on.

Only thing wrong is the UI, install a third party Start Menu and most people won't know the difference.

People just hate change. Since the new start screen and tile design was so different from what people were used to with Windows 7, they hated. I personally don't hate Windows 8, but the only problem I had with it was it had compatibility issues with certain games.

Personally, I love Windows 8.1. I'm going to get it for my my new PC when I build it. It's very fast and I love the look of it.

Windows 7 is actually better than 8.1.

1. Everything is more complicated

2. I can't replace files when copying from my NAS

3. GTA IV doesn't work with

4. Netflix doesn't work properly

Some problems i had...

I loved windows 8 when i did not experience the connection issues i had when i installed it on launch...

Then i installed windows 8,1 and the connection issues came back

Now i am using windows 7. And i'll keep using it until i can't do it anymore/Linux becomes a viable option.

Still miss the windows 8 metro interface though.

If you look back through the history of windows environments you'll see that when a whole new UI was introduced there were teething troubles, with vista it was system resources, with 8 it was the lack of start button and some driver incompatibility.  With ME it was compatibility and activation.  These issues are then strongly compounded by people who can't handle change.  I know this because I don't like change myself, however I am mature enough to know that change doesn't = bad.

Once people get over the change issue and the teething troubles are sorted people will realise there is nothing wrong with it.

I use 8. not seen much wrong with it and the  drive mounting is useful. The virtualisation is cool for my server which runs on server 2012 R2 which is virtualised by 8.1 which is used by the family.

Tried 8.1 on my PC and got issues with the WC pump making wierd noises when it restarted after installing. Uninstalled it, put 8 back on and the noise went away. (this even starts before it gets into the OS which is wierd)

Anyway, yeah... wouldnt use 8.1 on my main pc. Search was broken last time i used it, problems with my pump and a bunch of other things i didnt like.

you can do that in windows 7 as well... I don't get it?

I just haven't felt the need to upgrade and like the look I have on windows 7 since I have a custom theme (start menu and task bar included) and have a custom login background all to my preference and see no advantage of losing all that to upgrade to something that does exactly the same thing, causes the laptops at work to randomly overheat and slow down and it needs to be reconfigured to my preference. If it had any benefits that would have benefited me I would go 8/8.1 in a flash, however this is not the case and fanboys are telling me how fast it's booting (according to them it boots faster than my desktop with an SSD boot drive while they have win8 installed on hard drives) so the fanboy hype I'm getting from others also prevents me from giving a damn with the added bonus of one of them telling me how awesome it is and in the same breath telling me he can't properly run NFS rivals on his pc while his brother with an overall weaker PC can run it fine with win 7.
