Do I buy Corsair cx500

So I recently saw a used Corsair cx500 power supply and I was wondering wether or not to buy it because I’m afraid it could be too old and blow up in 2 years. Should I get it or go for a newer model?

kind of difficult for us to answer this, if your putting it into a cheap PC then sure itll probably be fine. but if its worth alot (or worth alot to you) then I would just go with a safe new power supply from our forum tier list

Used psu = no.

If it's the green label is a big big no.

Always get a quality psu preferably not used. There is a psu tier list for this reason get a b tier unit or better:

I have a tight budget, no more than 50 gbp. Any suggestions?

A new cx550. Should be about that and still be a decent psu.

CX500 is always green. Old label units were 430, 500, 600, and 750, with only the 750 being just very slightly less crappy.

Grey are 450 550 650 750 and all good. Strangely, Grey modular are bad too, they're built on a shittier platform - had to save money after factoring in modularity I guess

A new cx500 is already a terrible idea. A used PSU in general is not a great idea. A used CX500? You're asking for your computer to catch fire.

Oh good lord this nonsense again. If I had 10 bucks for every time some troglodyte went "REEEEEEEEEE CX GREEN HOUSE FIRE" I could damn near buy a scalped 3080 and run it off my green label 750M.

At least you partially redeemed yourself by recommending a new CX so it's not totally hopeless.

But they were not good psu's. I mean sure plenty worse out there but I got enough of the below 750w units back when they just randomly died. Stopped putting them in builds about a year after I started because I kept getting em back a lot more compared to well what would be perceived as random failure. Even in office computers which was strange.

Turns out they were pretty crap so yeah checks out.

Edit I have no problem with products they just have to be well made. If not I will not recommend them and as I personally experienced multiple instances with them being problematic as well as them being deemed problematic I simply will not ever recommend them.

Yup made a mistake there. They upped the wattage a bit to differentiate themselves but still just remember the old wattages out of sheer habit :p.

Hell yeah, no bottlenecks there.

The little brother CX430M also paired well with a 3770 and GTX480. Maybe I ought to snag a 980 and give it another rip.

Who needs insurance? I've got a bottle of water next to me I could dump on a fire.

The thought of using water on an electrical fire makes me sad

Oh god no. I love that PC, don't get me wrong, but I'm not masochistic enough to casually browse the web on it. A RAM and GPU upgrade would probably go a long way towards making it a bit less painful, though.

My daily is on my profile though. Just haven't thought of putting anything else down in the signature.
