280 or 360mm be quiet or arctic

Hi everyone, 

 

I'm building my husband a workstation for Unity development and AAA game testing. CPU wise I'll be getting either a 5600x or 5900x and I am planning on getting a p500a for a case. I'm trying to decide between the following coolers, the prices at the moment are a little wacky: 

  • ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 £90.43
  • ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 £105.43
  • ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 £104.99
  • be quiet! Pure Loop 360 £130.43
  • be quiet! Pure Loop 240 £82.51
  • be quiet! Pure Loop 280 £90.13

I'm looking for quiet operation under constant load, so I'm thinking either 280 or 360. What would you go with?

Interesting that the 280 costs more than the 360 on one brand and less on the other.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Freezer II is better. Its pretty hard to beat.

Tier lists for building a PC.

 

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

Gpu tier list. Rtx 3000 and RX 6000 not included since not so many reviews. Tier S for Water cooling. Tier A and B for overcloking. Tier C stock and Tier D avoid.

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

I think the only thing that's drawing me more towards the be quiet one is the fact its possible to top it up after a couple of years of use. Is this possible to do with the freezer II as well?

Freezer ii aio are the best cooler in the market, the only one that can compete close with them is ekwb aio

I have the Be Quiet Pure loop, 120mm, 240mm, 280mm.  I haven't used the 360mm though.  I also like that Be Quiet designed the unit to be topped off and included fluid.  That is big feature in my mind.  Doing some research on the Pure Loop, seems like they put quite a bit of effort into their quality control.  I also like the Be Quiet fans better than Arctic, they are the Pure Wings fans, which are the rifle bearing version, but they are very good.  The only downside to the Be Quiet Pure loop is that there aren't a ton of independent reviews compared to the Arctic Freezer.  I find the Pure Loop to be really good, it's among the best I've personally used, but I'm just one guy on a forum.

Not what she asked.  Definition of “best” is also vague.  There is high performance and there is durability.  One does not always imply the other.  The refill port assumes durability. Might not be actual though.

Factoids about fan bearings.  Might or might not be useful.

Rifle is sleeve that has a helical channel in it to transport lubricant  between the ends of the bearing.  Allows such a bearings to achieve horizontal sleeve lifespans whil being mounted vertically.  A FDB is almost but not quite the same thing FDB also has micro channels cast into the sides of the sleeve barrel to transport lubricant across the sides. Some rifle bearings are effectively FDB though.  My memory is a horizontal sleeve has about 80% of the lifespan of a triple ball fan, while full fen has slightly longer than triple ball lifespan.  I don’t remember how much.

I totally agree with 1982 Original, I have both the Arctic Freezer II 280 and the bequiet 280, both are great AIOs plus these two pumps are superb. 

its a tough choice to make as you can refill the be quiet. but even if you can refill, there might be some other factors as time goes by.. AIO will give way and I believe even if you can refill the bequiet, the lifespan of an CLC AIO will still be around 4 to 5 years.

They are both good coolers, but as you mention this is a workstation I would be inclined to go with a good air cooler.

 

The Alpenfohn Brocken 3 is a nice cooler for around £50.

If you end up going with the 5600X then even an Arctic Freezer 34 esports would do just fine.

Both of the above will be fine with tall Ram (i.e Corsair RGB) as well, so they won't block any slots.
