As much as all game developer want to look cool and innovative, people will use whatever interface they are comfortable with.

Why build something people don't use?

They've tried everything you mentioned above, even VR.

Immersion. You want to play as part of the game. Motion sensors and controllers + steering wheel are all about taking the immersion breaking controller out of the equation.

Touch screen would be for a certain platforms only, mainly mobile.

personally i dont see any reason that these would NEED to be put in a game. im not big on immersive gaming, i know some people love it. but from the perspective of someone who only really does pc gaming with a keyboard and mouse i dont have any desire for these features.

Touch Screen

Benefit to gamers - they can play on their mobile device

Why game maker would make it - mobile gamers would buy/use it. Mobile gaming is a gold mine for developers

Motion Sensor

Benefit to gamers - it's an additional feature to take advantage of, kids in particular like it, hardware dependent (Controllers that support motion control like nintendo, ps5, VR controllers, mobile devices)

Why game maker would make a game for it - good for sports games, motion control hardware manuafacturers are mor elikely to support the game if it supoorts the motion features of their product. It allows a cleaner UI on smaller devices as you have to display less info on screen.

Motion Control - same as above

Steering Wheel

Benefit to gamers - Makes driving games more realistic & fun

Why a game maker would support it in a game - If it's a driving game people who have the hardware will expect to be able to use it.

thanks

These are not advantages these are just a description of what the functions OP mentioned do.

Yup, they sure are advantages.

I am not about to write out OP's homework though, this is only to get them started.

What are the advantages of motion control - so you can incorporate motion to your game.

That's a description not an advantage

It is your choice if you want to help OP or not in his homework (or whatever he asked these things for) but assuming it is for homework answering that question that way wouldn't give him any marks nor would help to infer something regarding his question, I am pretty sure he already knew that motion control has something to do with motion.

Nope, it's an advantage.

If you know motion enhances your game, you can incorporate motion control.

Sometimes obvious questions deserve obvious answer.

Example:
Q: "Why does this motherboard have WiFi?"

A: "So you can connect to WiFi with it."

See?

I am not writing exact answers, I am giving pointers as I said before:

This is not the same question.

You are asking why something exists and here you can use the description to give an answer to it.

But if you ask about the advantages of that something then the description cant be the answer.

To rephrase

Q: What are the advantages of wifi in a motherboard

A: So that you can connect to WiFi

Is not the answer, the advantages of wifi in a motherboard are that one doesnt need cables to connect/pair 2 or more devices or to access the internet.

All of these in one way or another have been used heavily by Nintendo. I'd suggest starting there.

Steering wheels? I think you are mixing them to Sega. If there's something to look into, then its histroy of video games and especially old arcades.

I agree with them not being very popular with Nintendo, but there was an official Wii attachment for the wiimote that would make it a steering wheel. More to your point though, the F-Zero AX arcade cabinets had one as well.

One could say the Wii Wheel was more in the realm of "motion controls inspired by a steering wheel" and not a steering wheel itself, but it can definitely be used in both examples.

Same with Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS and the wheel accessory. Still 'just' motion controls, but inspired by a steering wheel.

There was also Mario Kart GP, which was made by Namco/Bandai Namco, but of course it used the Mario Kart franchise and it definitely featured steering wheels.
