USB Drives under $20 that don't fry themselves with heat?

Ash_Kechummm

Okay so I live in India, where the only "decent" company with flash drives not costing an arm and a leg because of import costs is SanDisk (and Toshiba, but I don't think it's the real company because last I checked, the NAND business of Toshiba is now Kioxia)

I've bought a bunch of SanDisk drives (cruzer blade for USB 2, cruzer fit and ultra fit for USB 3), and all of them have overheating issues on every machine i've tried them on (multiple PCs and laptops, my smartphone with an OTG adapter, and even my car's radio)

I'm just looking for drives that are reliable enough to actually complete transfers without overheating and disconnecting, and USB 3 would be nice but not really needed (since i don't think i'll be looking for a drive larger than 32 gigs for now)

Kioxia is Toshiba, just a new name. All they did was broke out the nand flash business into its own unit/brand.

i know that; what i'm trying to say is i find flash drives with the toshiba name instead of kioxia, so i'm not considering them since they might be fake

Just plain common sense would dictate that a USB-stick with a shell made of rubber or plastic is not going to be able to shed much of the heat it generates through the shell, so those would be more likely to overheat than something with a metallic shell. As such, I would look at buying one with a metallic shell. If it still continues to show thermal-issues, one could open it up and add a thermal-pad or pads on the PCB so more heat can be transferred to the shell.

No, I am not a USB-stick aficionado and I do not have any specific recommendations.
