Is a Hyper 212 Black Edition good enough to cool an FX-8370

I just ordered an FX-8370 and Hyper 212 Black Edition for my first PC build, but I’ve heard a lot about the FX-8370 running very hot, and I just wanted to make sure my Hyper 212 will be enough to cool it? If not I can resort to ordering a Rosewill PB240. Keep in mind this is my first ever PC build so I’m not completely acquainted with this hardware yet. (FYI: I have 3 120mm case fans as well)

Why buy a 6 year old FX? How much did you pay for that thing? I think the Hyper 212 will manage, but these CPUs were really just terrible.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yes the Hyper 212 would be enough, but why order an FX 8370 in these days? there are similarly priced Ryzen CPUs that are much faster

Agreed, a used Ryzen 3 1200 will destroy this thing... (I still wouldn’t buy a used R3 1200, I’m just giving an example)

the cvooler is enough but the fx 8370  is very bad. used ryzen 3 1200 go for 30-50$ and absolytely destroys the fx 8370.

I wonder how much he paid for it, the prices I'm seeing on eBay are unreasonable averaging for 150$, that CPU is definitely not worth anywhere near that value.

But why FX? Do you have am3+ already? I won't buy a FX for $100.

Probably better for you to use $50 Athlon 3000ge, 2 cores but much faster in games.

Oof, sorry but for $100 this is a terrible deal. For example you can get a current-gen 10100f for the same price.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Have you had the AM3+ platform for a while or was it newly purchased? if you've bought all of it as a system then you could've just as easily went for a 1st Gen or 2nd Gen Ryzen for a very similar price while being so much faster, the FX CPUs are awful and you definitely overpaid for 100$.

I’ve had a few good experiences with the AM3+ platform before and I went for it for cost reasons but then my cheaper 6300 got cancelled so I bit the bullet and overpayed some  jackass for a 8370.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

Spoiler

Gpu tier list. Rtx 3000 and RX 6000 not included since not so many reviews. Tier S for Water cooling. Tier A and B for overcloking. Tier C stock and Tier D avoid.

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

Spoiler

Psu tier List. Tier A for Rtx 3000, Vega and RX 6000. Tier B For anything else. Tier C cheap/IGPU. Tier D and E avoid.

(RTX 3000/ RX 6000 Might run just fine with higher wattage tier B unit, Rtx 3070 runs fine with tier B units)

Spoiler

Cpu cooler tier list. Tier 1&2 for power hungry Cpus with Overclock. Tier 3&4 for overclocking Ryzen 3,5,7 or lower power Intel Cpus. Tier 5 for overclocking low end Cpus or 4/6 core Ryzen. Tier 6&7 for stock. Tier 8&9 Ryzen stock cooler performance. Do not waste your money!

Spoiler

Storage tier List. Tier A for Moving files/  OS. Tier B for OS/Games. Tier C for games. Tier D budget Pcs. Tier E if on sale not the worst but not good.

(With a grain of salt, I use tier C for OS myself)

Spoiler

Case Tier List. Work In Progress. Most Phanteks airflow series cases already done!

Ask me anything :)

you cna sell the AM3+ and DDR 3 and get a cheap motherboard and ryzen 3 3100/3300x or used ryzen 5 1600/2600 for that price.

I might do that depending on how well my PC does what I want it to. If it works for what I want well enough then Ill stick with my 8370 and get a good water cooler and do an agressive over clock to try to get as much single threaded performance as I can.

But why FX? Do you have am3+ already? I won't buy a FX for $100.

Probably better for you to use $50 Athlon 3000ge, 2 cores but much faster in games.

I had already gotten all my parts. Plus I’m also using this for some tasks that I need more cores for.
