Long story short :

Whats the difference between

Bequiet straight power 11 650w platinum

and

Bequiet straight power 11 650w gold?

Let me try to explain what I mean :

I'm serious, I know it's an efficiency thing but I want to know what is the difference internally, and what does that mean for things like *in rush current* etc...?

Also @Fasauceomewhat do you think, do I even *need* a new PSU?

Honestly I see no issues so far other than the pure power (500w) getting a little hot / warm under prolonged load, which obviously isn't great, but also not exactly super concerning... but long term this isn't ideal I'm sure...

I mean I would rather wait for the pure power 650/700w to be back in stock if anything tbh, I kind of hate the cables of the straight power lol, the pure power is way simpler and more sleek!

The direction tells you... the direction

From what I can tell not much other than efficiency, both are Tier A multi-rail PSU's, that are well made, both have 5-year warranty. Refer to this list:

Does that PSU have a thermal sensor? What kind of tempsmare you getting?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

No it doesn't have a sensor.

But since it's on the top it's easy to feel, and to guess... I'd say about 40-45C from the outside...? (hard to tell exactly obviously)

It's not literally "hot" just pretty warm...

while this objectively might be wrong... out of straight power /platinum / gold and pure power 11, the pure power looks best, for example has the longest hold up time... (sadly it's seemingly sold out anywhere at the moment) I think that's pretty important, as is inrush current (which I can't find) since this is a pretty old house and things might not be perfect (we don't have flickering lights or anything like that though...)

Oh well, if anything I'll get the straight power gold then, longer hold up time than the platinum, more max power combined, less idle power consumption, otherwise the differences are extremely small anyhow...

Yeah I would say that they are very similar. Are you set on Be Quiet? You could consider other brands.

It's not literally "hot" just pretty warm.

I don't trust human skin when it comes to measuring pc parts. It's just not very accurate to be honest.

And besides, you definitely want the hot air to be leaving the components. You're feeling the air temp but not the component temp either way

heh, well, I can tell air temperature up to about 40C pretty accurate... (which I noticed most people don't)

and I didn't mean the air coming from the psu, I meant the outside of the case on top... I do think it maybe feels warmer than it really is though, but it is definitely getting close to 40C, and that is *outside* of the PSU so yeah... thing is it never got warm previously, maybe 30C max, but rarely, usually it stayed incredibly cool, so about 20-25C...

Shouldn't the PSU turn off when it reaches "max operating temperature" btw?

I'm really not sure but that would be a good idea perhaps, since it's "max operating temperature"... lol :/

honestly after my recent experience with two Seasonic PSUs yes...

to make it short they felt both extremely flimsy, basically like €20 Ali express products... first one didn't work (probably blew a fuse internally) and then started to make really loud buzzing sounds even when the power switch was on *off*...

I haven't tried the second psu, I was tempted to do so, but the experience with the first one was honestly too scary.

So no, I don't trust any non Bequiet psu anymore... I know failures can happen, but the built quality was not something I've expected from €150+ PSUs...

I am serious, I'm not usually getting scared easily but this was scary af - I kinda expect a "700 w" device to be secure and not not make loud buzzing sounds when you just look at it or slightly touch it lol...

I mean I was initially planning to get a RMx, either 650w or 750w, but since my PC is currently running fine with a 500w PSU(!) , I think 750 is probably really overkill.

Also I've been searching, the inrush current of the Bequiet straight power is about twice as high as for the RMx... so that makes me lean towards the Corsair currently...

I'm still undecided though, I've found a pure power 11 600w, going to check the inrush current for that one now...

I'm not entirely sure but I think the fuses here are rated 50A, which is apparently exactly the inrush current of the straight power (nomen est omen? lol)

EDIT: nevermind, looks like the fuses here are 16A... I have no idea how this all works obviously. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Quote

A voltage of 230 volts and fuses for 16 amps are common in the EU, which theoretically would allow 3680 watts of device power. In practice, around 2500 watts should not be exceeded. This value applies to every socket with its own fuse.

Ok, there are some issues with the Bequiet... they're trying to push their "double" cables... which are not what's recommended for 30xx series...

I never thought finding a good PSU would be so difficult, it was so easy with my pure power 10...which literally just worked and still works.

Edit: @DailyProcrastinator I ordered a tx650m now! wish me luck lol...

I really don't like the cables of fully modular PSUs, and neither the cables of the *new* Bequiet PSUs (the ones from the pure power 10 are much better, anyway)

And the tx650m ticks all the boxes basically... I almost missed that it's switchable from single to multi rail though... info is so hard to find, partly because basically almost nothing on any corsair website I tried actually loads... and Amazon etc, don't tell you that little fact... (if it's then true)

Scratch that all, it's also a single rail... they had one chance and f that up!

I got an enermax revolution df  650w now!

while this objectively might be wrong... out of straight power /platinum / gold and pure power 11, the pure power looks best, for example has the longest hold up time...

You're right in saying that you might objectively be wrong. PP11 is an objectively worse PSU than either SP11 Platinum or Gold

I'm still wondering if I should even change my PSU... it works so well with the 500w... and it doesn't really get warm anymore either... it seems that really only happens when I'm playing like 5 hours non stop (or rather the game is running for that long) 🤔

I mean regardless of brand I'm not exactly keen on trying out another PSU after my recent experience with that Seasonic "PRIME" which I had the impression it came right out of a chewing gum machine* lol... (and the immediate explosion sound upon plugging it in didn't help much to change that impression either)
