Anandtech forums on trial: The corruption runs deep.

Wow SiliconWars is really butthurt.

This isn't news by the way. At least post it/move it to general...

It's just some bad moderator on another forum. This is not Anandtech being biased, this is not Anandtech trying to silence people. This is one of their mods abusing his power. Should I post a topic every time some mod on 4chan abuses their power? Should I post a news topic every time some mod on Macrumors is being fanboyish? Should I post a news topic here every time I get a warning that I think is unfair (have happened several times)? Of course not. If it was Anand himself that did it then I would understand posting it in news, but not if it's some random mod on their forum.

No, this is systemic censorship of perfectly normal comments and outright bullying of forum members that's going on inside the top tech forum on the web.

6 million people visit the anandtech forums every month 12 million in total interact with the Anandtech ecosystem, that's a huge number.

I did read the article. Abusing their authorities, I agree, but I still fail to see how this is relevant on here. What do you want us to do? Cry, go down in the streets and protest?

Yes, it pisses me off that some people are censuring comments simply because they don't agree with them. Still, there's nothing we can do about that here on LTT. It's annoying, but it's certainly not news. It's not uncommon, it's not something that hasn't been happening on countless websites for ages, and it's certainly not "new".

What we can and should do about it is inform everyone how corrupt the anandtech forums are. They are no longer a valid source of technical CPU or GPU advice and should be avoided.

You really need to read some law books if you think this is illegal...

You really need to try and improve your communication skills.

More often than not people can come off as jerks just because they lack proper communication skills or perhaps they just have some preconceived ideas and happen to specifically leave their communication skills out of comments which are directed towards people that disagree with these preconceived ideas one might have...

No actually one of the 6 people lost his lower body in a car accident so it's more like 5 and a half people.

Ok joking aside, I actually meant 6 million. Also mentioned in the article which I really hope you've read thoroughly.

One only needs to know a person's history to understand the intentions of the actions they make in their future.

To be honest I think this whole thread is a joke, news can be about people giving opinions and whenever people do you say that it's 100% news, I personally don't think it is, not that that matters because you refuse to lets us see it our way.

So because Hitler painted art he would choose to kill millions?

You do realize there is a big difference between Anandtech, and the Anandtech forum, right? If Windspeed gave me a warning for some comment then I wouldn't say I can't trust Linus or Slick anymore.

Again, this is NOT Anand, Brian, Ian or some other Anandtech writer doing this. It's some random mod on the forum. That's it. Hell, the writers on Anandtech doesn't even like their forum.

Grow thicker skin... You said it was illegal which it most certainly is not. Your post is just a red herring.

You're taking this entirely the wrong way. It's not about saying that Anandtech is corrupt because it isn't as far as we know at least.

It's about informing the six million people that visit the anandtech forums every month that they're getting their information from an environment which is extremely biased not only on the member's level but actually on the admin's level which is much worse.

A person that goes in anandtech to ask about CPUs or GPUs will get no mention of AMD. If you think that's wrong then you should tell people to avoid the anandtech forums, however if you don't think that's wrong then there's obviously something wrong with the logic by which your arguing.

The way you wrote that was biased in itself

We have something called the 4th amendment in the US maybe you've heard of it.

It's our version of the magna carta by which we are granted the right of free speech.

Denying us that right is in fact illegal.

Somebody is being biased in this thread but it's definitely not GPUXPert.

I've heard before that the Anandtech forum wasn't very good before but I didn't really think it was because of this until now.
That's really awful Anandtech's community manager should step in at this point.

@Slick did an amazing job vetting the mods so props to him.

GPUXPert posted something in the news forums that he feels is news. It may not be about tech but it certainly falls under the tech community. If you don't feel like it's important enough news for you, just ignore it and move on please. You aren't doing anyone any favors here by harping on him for posting about it. For all those who say this isn't 'new's because it references dates that are up to 8 months old, that's irrelevant since the article itself is only 10 days old. If mods feel like this thread should belong elsewhere so be it, but you aren't a moderator. It's very disconcerting to come into a thread to read what people think about the article and have to sift through all the off topic banter that's gone on in here.

PS. This post isn't directed at any one particular individual but if you feel like this pertains to you, then it probably does.

So you mean every banned person from any forum/media source/etc. in this world should sue who banned them because "it's illegal"?

Sure... Go and sue Anandtech and see if you win. It's not illegal to give people warnings on a privately owned forum.

I have had a mod on this forum edit my post. Do you think that is illegal? Should I sue the mod that edited my post?

By your logic, I could post something that breaks all the forum rules, and if my post was deleted or removed, I could sue Linus. That is what you are saying, and that is not true.

It's not illegal...

Oh and by the way, it's the first amendment, not the fourth.

If someone is telling facts with linking confirmation just like a typical discussion without threatening and or any kind of abuse of the Code of Conduct of that forum and a moderator bans you for no valid reason (censoring free speech* which is not the case in that forum.) then yes but someone needs to confirm that if it applies to the US mainland. If so then the following Dutch constitution isn't valid.

*Here in the Kingdom of the Netherlands Constitution Article 7 Freedom of speech clearly tells that everyone has the right to speak and express him/ herself without any fear of being punished unless you say something/ writes that is not allowed under any other Article of the Constitution or any other law, if so then the judge can punish you afterwards, for example racism, treating or pure hate speech for the sake of examples.

Back on topic (Jaay!)

Laws are complicated to explain in the short but I think by my self that we can't do much about the moderators "abuse" their functions. It's the admins responsibility for choosing the moderators, not the forum member.

I've quoted that because the story is one sided and makes sue the forum pointless. Really do we have full leakproof of evidence to take any legal actions against that forum moderator(s)?

I think not and I'm not a lawyer in any kind. So I could be wrong, I'm telling by my own point of view and the current Dutch law and constitution.

@LAwLz you made a point about moderators..

Watch out, there might be ninjas out there

That's not what I'm saying at all your just putting words in my mouth at this point.

Your post was edited because you clearly broke the forum code of conduct>

What's happening in the anandtech forums on the other hand is multiple individuals got a warning points and potential bans without breaking any forum rule because the moderator discriminated against them based on their views or beliefs.

And that IS illegal.

Also you wouldn't sue Anandtech, you'd directly take action against the mod to have anandtech remove him/her.

It's absolutely dreadful that you left everything in this thread that actually deserves discussion like freedom of speech, freedom of expression and the negative aroma surrounding the extremes of the PC hardware community to point out that YOU believe that I am wrong based on a technicality... you should really re-evaluate your priorities here.

Plus suing for a dispute on a online forum seems like a major waste of money and is just all in all childish.

Moderation is a touchy subject, I personally really dislike strong moderation on content, to me moderation should be strictly on form (removing spam and duplicate topics, moving topics to corresponding forums within reason, etc.) or legal subject matter (i.e. removing kiddie porn) but never content. Sure blatant trolls' bait can be moved to an off topic forum but anything removing content for what's being said is stupid to me.
