Looking to buy a used graphics card for older motherboard.

Vsp-RT16

Hey everyone, I have an old system that I use for some light gaming and entertainment. The graphics card has recently given up and looking to find a used one to replace it with.

I know cpu's need to match the socket of the motherboard to even work but wondering if gpu's are that strict as well? How modern can I go? A somewhat modern one would be good to use when I'm finally ready to move on from this system.

Asus P5KPL-CM Board link
Core 2 Duo E8400
4GB DDR3 Memory - Not sure what speed.
Windows XP

Thermaltake TR2 600W Power supply
----------------
Nvidia 9600GT [Stopped working, need to replace] The FPS wasn't great with this card in the games I was playing but it was playable. So just a moderate upgrade over that would be really enjoyable.

Thank you everyone, have a great holiday season!

I have a 9400 GT. Yes, I know that isn't better.

But:
This type of post falls under Classifieds, but you must have at least 100 posts to post there.

So...

As long as its PCIe you'll be good to go. In very rare cases some motherboards don't get along with certain cards, but that's a try it and find out deal.

I'd stay with something near-ish to that era as you'll be extremely CPU-bound by getting anything remotely modern in that price range.

I've seen plenty of GTX 460, 560, 650, etc. well below your price range (30-60 CAD). All of which would be a huge leap from your dead 9600 GT.

Sweet, I'll look into something around that then. I see a 750ti for $45 in my area actually.

Thank you.

Thank you.

750ti will be a big jump. 1650 bigger still. Good luck.
