So, I just realized, 7 days after my CPU cooler arrived, my NH-D14; I realized, "Wait, this is an old model, and this won't work as well as a say NH-D15, and will take up a shit-ton of my motherboard space.". Now I want to know, from you guys, if a NH-D14 will still stack up against a D15, and if I should refund the D14, and get the D15. (I got a 20% off deal on the D14, so I don't know if that's the best idea) ywy

As long as your RAMs clears the heatsink and you can mount it to your hardware (assuming it comes with appropriate mounting kit for your system) just use it. If you are that worried about couple of degrees of difference (at best), then you picked the wrong type of cooling.

Ryzen 7 3700X, looking to upgrade to a 9 next year... (also planning on OCing.)

Size wise the D15 is bigger than the D14, the D15s takes away the front fan. Performance wise the D15 might be a tad better but likely not much. I mean really up to you, there is no harm in keeping the D14.

Dude, you're cooling a 3700X, not a 10980XE..

 

The difference between the D14 and D15 is going to be measurable, but inconsequential. Because no matter what, with either cooler, even the stock Wraith, it'll still have no problem hitting its boost targets.

 

At the end of the day too, you're still putting in a butt-ugly brown and chrome tower cooler in a PC. Like you can't even say "oh I did for aesthetics" because they're still the ugliest fans on the planet.

If you took the fans from D15 and put them on a D14, the D14 would cool slightly better than the D15.

 

Newer isn’t always better.. but either way both of them will eat your motherboard. They are huge.

I would say D14 is that 20% worse than D15. So in the end you don't gain anything really from D15. Unless you have RAM clearance issues, then D15 is better. But if you have case clearance issue, then D14 is better.
