Quad vs dual vs single channel ram?

4 sticks may be harder to run at high speeds, 2 sticks may be bad for Ryzen 3000/5000, single channel has no purpose.

thats not what quad channel. Thats 4 sticks in dual. 

 

lets say single channel is 17gb/s (thats at 2133 i believe) . Then dual is 34gb/s. Quad is 68gb/s.

May be worth pointing out for OP again that 4 Slots does NOT mean quad channel but rather just 4 sticks in dual channel, like you said. Unless ofc he is running high end platforms such as 2066 or TR4

Each DDR channel is 64 bits wide, so single channel memory is 64 bits wide, quad channel is 256 bits wide, and in a given clock cycle for the memory it can move two bits of data. All things equal, quad channel will have 4x the bandwidth of single channel. quad channel CPUs are usually HEDT platforms like X99, X299, X399, TRX40 etc, most boards in that category have 8 DIMM slots to let you run multiple ranked of memory in each channel, generally the more ranks in each channels the more performance you can get at the cost of maximus speed, it's a very fine line between which is better in a given situation at given speeds and can only really be worked out by experiment as theory and RAM does not go together.

More channel means more bandwidth, that's it if everything else is kept constant. It's pretty much like RAID 0 for storage, doubling the number of channels nearly doubles the bandwidth.

 

You do have a limit of memory channels however, which is determined by the motherboard and CPU.
