DT 770 Pro or M50x?

entez

Hey,

as many people do, I ask myself if I should whether buy the Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro or the Audio Technica M50x.

I want to pair them with a Creative Soundblaster G6 Soundcard which I am going to buy, not having it yet.

I am not a producer or something, I just care about good and clear sound quality for listening to music, of course it should be detailed and precise. I watched reviews but still can't decide, because the M50x should have better bass (?) but at the same time I am going to use it with a sound card with which I can customize the sound whatever way I want. I only care about the Sound. I know that for editing music the DT770 should be the better way to go but again I wanna listen.

Which of them has the cleaner, more crystalized sound and which one is less muffled?

Thanks for your help

If you want a listening experience. Don't get the M50X's. They sound horrendous for music with their non-existing soundstage and the bass is just muddy. I've tried them. They are not suitable for gaming or music. The DT 770 pros on the other hand have a much better bass and will have a better soundstage with precise imaging. The G6 will work great with them as well. I recommend the 250ohm version if you are gonna use it with the amp/DAC combo you mentioned. If you don't like coiled heavy cables get the 80ohm version.

M50x not as bad as people say they are. People seem to get aroused from saying how bad they are but they are alright. Very comfy (one thing I remember most about these headphones). They actually have incredibly good low end but the low mids are off and it makes it sound like the low end below 100Hz is wrong which is funny as its almost dead right. Also doenst help people dont normally hear low end so think lows should be quieter then they are. People run around going they sound muddy and really thumpy when thats what low end is supposed to sound like. Quite popular in the live events industry very easy to run so rag them high up into the 100dB in loud environments.  Also a bit more forgiving when thrown in rucksacks and bag and shipped around the country while on tour.

But Id go for the 770s. Very good headphones, nice built quality, cant go wrong with them. Also the acoustic lectures from university all had 770s and if that's not a good enough endorsement I don't know what is.

The DT 770 250 ohm has better quality ,more detailed,  and a more linear, bass response. The midrange is more linear than a m50x and the treble is less piercing and overall more detailed than a m50x. The DT 770 is also more suited to gaming as it has a wider soundstage and better imaging thus easier to locate footsteps. The m50x has no soundstage at all . It's very aggressive and of course has more bass quantity in respect to it being heavier .

i would go 770.
