Been playing Overwatch at inconsistant fps for years. Need help upgrading.

OnePei

My current spec:

CPU:I7 7700

GRU: gtx1070

RAM: 2133 8Gx2

MB: msi b150a gaming

So my main goal is to reach a stable 144hz with everything set to low and have not been able to do so for years.

Can someone reccommend the cheapest upgrading approach I can make out of this? Thanks.

That RAM speed is most likely the reason for your bad FPS. (I'm stuck at 2133mhz aswell :()
Is there an XMP profile you can enable in your bios?

If not find the max RAM speed your mobo supports and buy new RAM

Intel at that point didn't really care at what speed the ram was at at all.

PS: I kinda doubt it's the RAM, do Intel cpus even care at all?

You should be more than able to play the game at 1080p 144fps plus no problem.

What are your temps when playing the game? May just be the issue. I played the game on a 6700hq 970m laptop at those framerates and almost never went below it.

Seems that my motherboard only supports up to 2133.

How fast a ram would you reccommand to achieve a stable 144hz. Thanks.

That's the max ram speed your mobo supports, so it's something else. Are your drivers up too date? Are your temps good?

Alright I will look for a way to check out my temp while in game.

But I think it might be the ram issue more likely because I haven't been able to play at constant 144hz since the beginning when I bought this pc.

Seems like my temperature is normal 60c for both GRP and CPU while playing Overwatch.

However my vram usage is only 8xxmb  not sure if this is normal.

Temps are good and idk about the vram, never played the game so idk if that's normal or not.

Used to be a semi pro Overwatch player, those specs should be able to run at 144 FPS +, no upgrading required.

I had a problem with my current system running at a consistent 144Hz, usually being below 120 FPS, when it would be above 200+ FPS before. Perhaps check the reduce buffering setting in the game, sometimes it can glitch out and cause people to run lower FPS than normal. If you have it on, turn it off and on again to see if that helps.

Could you also post a screenshot of all of the settings in game to this thread?

RGB is very overrated.

Well, there have been instances where factory resetting your PC fixed FPS problems. I wouldn't do that unless you really can't get anything to fix your problem.

These are my in game settings. Resolution 1080p and it's showing 75hz because Im currently using an old monitor.

I know about the buffer button but it doesn't seem to be the issue. Thanks.

Is this method the same as reinstalling windows? If it is then I have tried it. Thanks.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it dips below 144fps. Overwatch cares a lot about memory latency and can use more than 4 cores pretty effectively these days.

That said, with gsync/freesync on I doubt you'd notice much stuttering or anything unless you're religiously watching the FPS counter.

Also make sure your memory is running in proper dual channel mode-- that would make a major difference.
