@OP: I have also given the exception for LTT. Despite all the haters, I'd say it's a good step. I can't afford the contributor subscriptions, so any other way i can help is good! I also use Linus' afiliate code and give thumbs up on his videos. That's more than he can ask for.

I'm using adblocks for some some seriously disturbing or some porny ads on some websites. You don't pay for anything, just let them have some monehh.

I don't have AdBlock. (Come to think of it the only extension I have is the LTT Notification extension (which I love)).

I decided to uninstall AdBlock about a month ago. I don't use it on any of the machines that I ever get on.

Using internet without Adblock Plus is too bothersome for me anymore. That being said I've always made exceptions for content creators and websites I like. That's why I don't run it on Youtube and see the exact same 4 ads recycle over and over. And some of them are ridiculous, like 5 minutes long, who the hell would actually watch that?

 

I wish youtube had some strict guidelines for video ads. 30-45 seconds is ideal.

What is it? prove your loyalty to LTT forums by not blocking ads day or something?

i use adblock on here because i only get 60gb of data and ads use more than you would think.

i disable it on most sites i use frequently like mods sites, ltt and yt.   But im getting some really fucking weird yt ads now with like hot wheels and gaben saying 'fuk dis shit'.   Plus, maybe if they made a 1 time donation, I would contribute, but atm i simply dont earn even 5 bucks a month consistently.  So all you people saying just contribute and showing the gold badges... not everyone holds up an income.

I don't agree with such a clear-cut statement. You are assuming that we all use internet to just watch content creators that we like. There are ton of sites that I would not want to contribute even a single cent.

For me, it depends on the machine I'm on. On my laptop I block all ads,

makes the system run smoother (it's not the fastest machine anymore ;)).

I use adblock on every website, no exceptions.

 

I dont feel guilty about it. I use self service checkouts, I would use self driving cars, I would use many things that deny some people of income.

 

Nobody is born with the right, or earns the right to do a specific job. It is a privilege. If they arent earning enough, then they should do something else, or make their content PPV or subscription based.

 

I HATE it when people bitch about adblock, especialy people that make youtube videos. I also hate it when people beg for money through 'donations'  for badges in chat channels/forums, or other dumb stuff like that.

 

I have 2 websites myself that are self supporting through ad revenue. I dont care that the people visiting are using adblock, and i would never implement features to stop them using adblock. It is their choice.

The only exception I have made to my "Disable adblock on sites I like" rule is explosm because they have obnoxious autoplay ads. It's unfortunate because I love their stuff but those ads are so annoying. 

 

So yeah, disabled!

Then don't visit the site. It costs somebody money to run the site, and if you don't want to view the ads, don't visit the site.

Nobody is forcing them to run the website or make videos. Either make it paid content, or accept that people are going to use Adblock.

Even posters who post on here with Ad-Block adds content and I will even stretch it as far as we (all the members sans the LMG) are the forum and basically we are the content and are doing it for free so just signing up sans Ad's they gain click count which makes their ad-sense potential grow and adds to the revenue bracket they are in. Its not like we don't know how it works, we (the ad-blockers) just don't want that annoyance and know very well every click counts, ad-viewed or ad-blocked. Its really the people that don't know what is counted and what is not that are missing it. Sure we may not ever buy what ever is supposed to be shown in where ever the add is placed through this site but we may still buy it if its covered and is a good product which is really the take home message, not who is blocking the ads and who is not.

 

So cover good products, discuss it and the revenue will roll in, post random BS and well you'll get BS.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

So I have Adblock and I love it it's great, but there's certain places that I don't have it running on since I want those people to gain revenue, I don't want to hinder them. And LinusTechTips forums is one of the place I don't want it running on. I go into my Adblock settings and keep telling it to not run on here, but every time I get on there's something new and it just decides to block every single ad on here. Anyone know what to do? I have the simple Adblock running (the one that say's to help out the guy who made it by donating it), not the "plus" version. 

And also some Ads that are related to technology/computers are sometimes helpful to me.
