7-zip cant change specific folder...

no matter how I change the temp folder in settings, it keeps using c drrive as temp , which i have no space

 

how to change the extract temp location?

Really free up some space, not a good idea to have the drive that close to being full.

Are the settings not saving or they are but aren't reflecting on what you've set? Maybe try running it as administrator and see if it works then.

You might need to change the Windows %TEMP% directory location in the system environment variables.

Oh god please don't do that. %TEMP% reflect to a special folder with special right on the disk for developper to use. If you change the location but not al lthe right you can screw up a bunch of software.

not that easy, like this zip is 14gb in size, and more often 40gb..

Im pretty sure you don't need the temp to be as big as the archive. I have compressed files in 7zip much bigger than my boot drive size.

all unzipping basically extracts to a temp folder then transfer the whole thing after finished

so temp folder must be equal or larger than zip source

There is a option in the command line options to change the temp directory, try that.

 

Do other unzipping programs work here?

thats what i did under settings of 7zip and failed, using D:\ and no sub folder

AFAIK, if you're writing a program "the Right Way", you should always reference %TEMP% and no the default path so that this doesn't cause issues. If it can be changed, you should assume it will be.

Yes i know. I did mention that the issue is the folder rights which will not be the same as the one properly set by your OS at install. I had some psycho that forward that to their network drive in the past which does require domain login access therefore not the usual right management a such folder. A Temp folder should not be locked to same temps files.

That said, any local drive would be fine to set it to (as long as the drive is always accessible).

totally depends on who's doing it.

 

if you know what you're doing, it's a 30 seconds job in the command prompt (at least for me).

Maybe, just speaking from 30 years experience that people doing so are nearly always those that don't know how to do it properly.
