I have a question about a build a friend is willing to sell to me.

Budget (including currency): roughly $1000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, Borderlands, any random game I might want to try (1080p/1440p and around 60fps would be ideal)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

 

I am just getting back into pc gaming and my buddy offered to sell me his old tower that he doesn't use anymore and I am wondering if this system would be able to run games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla with high settings with stable fps at 1080p or if I should spend a bit more and buy a pre-built (it has been a long time since I've built a pc and just don't have the confidence to do it at the moment). He used it mostly as a 3D printer workhorse. 

 

The specs are:

 CPU - i5-2500k @3.3Ghz

 Ram - 32GB dual-channel ddr3 @668MHz

 Mobo - Asustek P8P67 LE

 GPU - Radeon RX 580 8gb

 HDD/SSD - 3 different drives of various sizes, one is an SSD

Well nah then, that's too much. 

CPU, Board and RAM are each 50, GPU is like 150 max and then another 100 for the other stuff. I'd at maximum pay $400 for that.

cpu 50, mobo and ram 100, gpu 100-150, storages 50-100. so max is 400, for 250 i would buy it. for 300 i could consider to buy it. for 400+ avoid.

you could buy the system for 200 without the cpu and buy used 3770/3770k, 3770/3770k are much better than 2500k

your friend is trying to scam you. i would ask him to leave out the cpu and probably the motherboard also

just the gpu 16GB of ram and maybe a drive or two are useful

I'm curious where you all find these prices as when I look on newegg or amazon it seemed to reasonably priced. Also any idea what kind of fps/settings it would be capable of?

Its all used and quite old components at this point so you have to look at what your local used market supports for price for those components. But $700 is getting hosed on that system even if your local market is garbage.

It's a 9 year old CPU on a platform with almost no upgradability. If you wanted to upgrade CPU, you'd more than likely be looking at new MoBo and RAM to go with it. If you wanted to upgrade CPU and keep that platform, you're still looking at a 8+ year old CPU or overpriced new because they aren't made anymore.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

Ah ok, I haven't looked at used markets simply because I've had bad experiences using them in the past. I definitely appreciate all the input and ideas. I suppose I'll start looking at pre-builts in my price range.

the target audience for those are people with a full computer and have just have that part broken or something. and those people are willing to pay for the overpriced component because its cheaper than getting a new PC.
