Would a cancel an RTX 3080 order to get a 6800XT, for Zen 3?

With how things are with stock, i would use use the 3080 till reviews came in on the 6800xt. If you end up wanting the 6800xt you probably still could sell the 3080 at purchase price or close to it once you get a 6800xt in hand.

Well I know we should take first-party benchmarks with a grain of salt but it does look like whatever you get. You will end up with a decent card.

 

I would leave the rtx 3080 order open and try to snatch whatever RX card you want as soon as it's available.

If you manage to get one, you can cancel the RTX order.

If you can't get one, at least the RTX 3080 order isn't wasted.

I'm currently facing this choice. I'm building a PC around the 5950x. The stores I've been dealing with tell me the earliest I can get a 3080 is in December.

 

I've been with NVIDIA since 3dfx went out of business. The last time I owned an ATI was a 2D accelerator card. For me to switch is something I've never considered before now.

 

There's something appealing about having an AMD GPU paired with an AMD CPU. I don't know if that would ever make a difference. AMD is also powering the latest consoles, and I'd prefer to play multi-plats on PC, so maybe that's an advantage.

 

If the 6800 XT was releasing at the same time as the CPU and I could snag both, it would be a done deal. The delay keeps the 3080 in play. It also lets me see the reviews to be sure the 6800 XT's performance is sufficiently comparable to the 3080.

 

Here's another question for folks: The 6900 XT is coming in significantly cheaper than the 3090. Is anyone cancelling a 3080 to spend a bit more to grab the 6900 XT?

If both cards are at MSRP I personally wouldn't.

 

I prefer the RTX 3080 to the 6800XT. Less VRAM but most likely better ray tracing performance, DLSS and Nvidia's drivers all for just $50 more.

 

If we were talking the RTX 3090 and 6900XT it would be a different story.

People would be really hasty to cancel a confirmed 3080 order for 6800 XT, unless the 3080 were coming like a month later *cough eVGA's waiting list cough*

We have no idea if the AMD cards are also going to be scalped or not, but the supply absolutely can't be worse than Nvidia, considering TSMC is involved.  At worst, you could just re-sell the 3080 at cost + shipping to some poor guy who's been trying to get one for months, if the AMD cards are not out of stock.  Canceling an order and then seeing the rich bots buy up all the 6800s and 6900's is going to then make you very, very angry you didn't just have a working high end video card.
