Trying to upgrade to ssd

I just bought a new SK hynix ssd to try and breath some life into my old laptop but when i try to install windows 10 on it it just says

"no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

its an HP pavilion g series

Ive tried both the usb stick and a dvd to install windows but both met with that.

Although i was upset at the drive being shipped in the big yellow envelop i check it in my pc and it was able to recognize it.

thanks for the help

Check whether it's using GPT or MBR. Or did you use AHCI or IDE on BIOS settings on SATA? Experiment some with that. Sometimes old BIOSes can't detect those with newer generation like both GPT and AHCI.

Humor me, as you should do.

Both of which passed

System configuration

-virtualization tech <disabled>

-fan always on <enabled>

-action keys mode <enabled>

-Boot options

-- post hotkey delay (sec) <0>

--Cd boot <enabled>

--Floppy boot <disabled>

--Internal network adapter boot <disabled>

--Boot order

---notebook hd

---internal cd

---usb diskette on key/usb hard disk
