United States. Tell me the pride of your state.

Funnily enough, I know this because of the Simpsons movie.  Isn't the fund that pays state taxes + your pseudo UBI funded through oil companies?

Not just oil companies though.

Section 9.15 - Alaska Permanent Fund.

<subs>At least twenty-five percent of all mineral lease rentals, royalties, royalty sale proceeds, federal mineral revenue sharing payments and bonuses received by the State shall be placed in a permanent fund, the principal of which shall be used only for those income-producing investments specifically designated by law as eligible for permanent fund investments. All income from the permanent fund shall be deposited in the general fund unless otherwise provided by law.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I live in Texas, everyone that's moved here in the last 30 years hates the politics, history, and the people, but our taxes were low and land was cheap. New money has closed all the old businesses down since none of the native residents can afford to live and work in the cities anymore, transplants have developed everything including some historic sites into nothingness, so sadly there's nothing left to have pride in. Even The Alamo is being turned into a 'non-offensive' theme park of sorts.

On the upside though: It never gets cold enough to stay frozen up for long, so they don't salt the roads and cars last forever. It's hot enough that every place has air conditioning already, so any place you walk into is comfortable year round. You can leave a city and get out into the middle of nowhere pretty easily too, and we have quite a few state and national parks. Tex-Mex food and beef brisket are amazing.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

I'm from California what does this state offer to people? Communism it's full of a bunch of dirty lazy commies!!!

But once you get away from the big cities where all those commie bastards live, the rest of the state is great.

We have yosemite, lake Tahoe, Mt Shasta 14k ft (climbed it 5 times now), lake Shasta, death valley, santa cruz, highway 1, and CA has about 65% of the pacific crest trail for all that hiking.

The taxes will kill you here so i'd recommend not living here unless you vote red or gold to bring CA back to its former glory when it used to be a red state for about 50+ years, but it's great to visit.

I've lived in Alaska and North Carolina for some years each.

Alaska was awesome it was nice during the summer and the winter it only got down to like -20F in anchorage which was quite fine. Motorcycle season only lasted like 4 months it seemed. But hiking and fishing were great and cheap for us residents, tourists fishing licenses cost a load more :) The winter was also great because the ski resort was like 30 min from work so we'd all pile in the truck on friday afternoon and go snowboarding all weekend.

North Carolina... I wasn't much of a fan of, its humid AF and the heat is miserable. the highest "mountain" is a little over 6k ft which took a whole like 2.5 hours to hike 🤦‍♂️ they have some ok beaches and Asheville was like a mini portland if you like beers.

We have to keep this politically neutral or else the thread will be locked.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Ive lived in kansas for almost my whole life, (moved to CA for a few years, just...dont go there.) After being there from 17-20 years of age I really appreciate our cost of living out here. And the general quality of people is much more kind and down to earth. Idk if id say its awesome. Theres nothing super amazing about it, but theres nothing bad either. If someone needed a place where jobs are somewhat available, non-expensive cost of living, and definitely likes the idea of small town living, for sure come here. If you dont like constant weather changes, lots of small towns and countryside, maybe dont come here. Interesting tidbit, its honestly not as flat as everyone makes it out to be. Its pretty flat in some areas, but not as much as people make it seem. Dunno whos interested, but I needed something to do while on the throne.

People in Kansas are nice, but good lord are they terrible drivers.

You're gonna carry that weight.

I live in Ohio, it kinda sucks.

There isn't anything to do except walk around the block or go to Walmart.

Lots of cornfields everywhere that isn't city or suburb. If it isn't suburb or city it's corn and soybeans.

Only thing for tourists is Cedar Point and Kings Island.

Columbus is a great city to raise kids, but don't forget we have Cleveland and Cincinnati.

TL;DR

corn.

Lived in Wyoming for eight years and really loved it tbh. There is something extremely relaxing about endless flat fields and no people.

Yeah Cedar Point is pretty on point. Just sad that I don’t have the constitution for the rides.
