What's the difference between these two cards, I know the strix is more expensive, but why? In previous generations TUF was considered bad, but with ampere TUF seems even better than some high-end cards from other companies. After checking the asus website, it seems like strix will use the same fans/cooling as TUF, and will only have a bit higher clock, but it's my understanding that TUF cards will boost just as high if the temperature and power is right.
Should I try to get the TUF card now, or should I wait for the strix? Also when does strix release anyway?

Really? What kind of problems? All the reviews I've seen praised the TUF to high heavens. It's also the only card I've seen that has all 6 capacitors as MLCC, instead of those cheap capacitors.

not cheap smaller f.e has more and tinier capacitors but tuf doesnt and that cusses unstability

if it was useful give it a like :) btw if your into linux pay a visit here

No, they don't. They have 4 of the larger caps, and only 20 of the MLCC. TUF cards have all 60 MLCC.

So did buildzoid. There are pictures to prove the arrangement is different between reviewer samples and retail versions of the cards.

Actually F.E. Has 2 MLCC and 4 cheap capacitors, while TUF has all 6 MLCC.

Different quality caps all around. The FE has a ton of tiny caps just everywhere on that socket, the tuf card has those large mlccs but skimp on the smaller caps all around the core...

I don't know tech specs to really deep dive, but seems a mixed bag situation, maybe a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Safest to wait for info on what's going on

My 3080TUF looks well populated with all ceramics, no smd electrolytics under the die.

I had no crashes so far, but I don't like to overclock my HW either. I keep CPU and GPU stock, except for the XMP memory profile of the memory.

One thing is for sure, since I haven't heard of a single card that doesn't have issues, I feel this isn't a capacitor issue.

At boost clocks the card is presenting a crash to desktop issue, while the current fix is lowering the boost clock speed by 50mhz and lowering power usage to 95%.

As far as OP's question go, it's tough to answer that, there are no reviews of the STRIX out.

I'm in a similar boat, however considering how little we gain from OCing the 3080, I doubt the strix is worth say an extra 100$.

I'm probably going to order a TUF this weekend, since I can get one for 719€ while the strix preorder sits at 859€

All photos, unboxing, reviews of the Tuf that I've seen showed it has having all MLCC caps. It's the only card that hasn't been reported to have instability issues, AFAIK. And it's priced at MSRP.

Tech City's video talks about the situation with OC cards crashing games, but it doesn't say that the problem applies to the Tuf or that the Tuf is unstable. He mentions no issues with the Tuf 3080 but says the only time the Tuf crashed in Unigine Heaven for him was when he was manually overclocking it too high. His benchmarks show stats from running the 3080 at 2055 Mhz, but his video footage shows a Unigine Heaven run reaching 2130 Mhz.

The TC video shows that the Tuf has all MLCC caps (the smaller ones), you can see it in the video's thumbnail. The FE has 4 SP-caps and 20 MLCC (the smaller caps). The Tuf has all MLCC (60 of them).
