Proper way to use Scarlett 2i2 as a DAC/Amp

You bought the whole knob, so use it!

If anything having the knob too low is more likely to cause audio weirdness, many potentiometers have balance issues in the lower end of their range.

Hey all. I just got my HD58Xs from Drop and they sound great. I'm using my Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen) as my DAC/Amp for now. I want to make sure I'm using the 2i2 properly. Is there any downside to having the volume cranked a bit on the 2i2? Also I'm keeping Direct Monitoring off unless I actually need to hear an instrument I have plugged into the 2i2(seems to make everything quieter for some reason).

Is this alright? I can definitely get it loud enough but the 2i2 volume knob has gotta be set to at least 3oClock before I'm in business. Don't know if there are any downside to pushing the 2i2 a bit.

As mentioned, you're totally fine cranking it.

My only suggestion is that on your PC, make sure audio output is maxed there so that the 2i2 gets the best signal. Do all volume adjustments on the 2i2.

As with the other replies set your PC audio to maximum and use the whole damn knob.
