I attempted to make an aluminum GPU Backplate

Rugg

It took me a total of 3 days but some of that was waiting on amazon. It costed me about $25 but would have been less if there was a hardware store that had the screws and washers nearby. It's got some scuffs and scratches but I think I'm ready to call it done.

Looks good, but pay attention, that the backplate isn't shorting anything.

I was careful to make sure the washers put it a fair distance above even the GPU mounting bracket. It should be okay. Additionally I might cut a sheet of vinyl to try to insulate the bottom of the backplate as best I can.

Is that a rx480? My card looks exactly like that.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I would have cut it a little further away from the GPU I/O shield. What you may run into in the future are devices you can't install above the card because their I/O shield interferes with the backplate.

I learned this the hard way with a XSPC backplate. Had to modify the I/O bracket on the top GPU to make it fit.

I think the 480 had an 8pin power connector didn't it? could be a 470 though.

Nice work though @Rugg, very sleek.

No, it has a 6pin.

You can tell in my signature.

Yep it is a reference XFX RX 480, mine did actually come with a backplate I just decided to switch it up.

I always loved the look of older reference Radeon cards, which had the full cover black backplate - specifically the high-end HD 6000 series cards looked really sleek imo. That might not be black, quite like those cards, but it still looks really good nonetheless :D

Considering, that the backplate is only screwed on, it's still a possibility to paint or anodise it black.

This is pretty tempting... I don't think I will though, I don't want to permanently change this backplate. Maybe next build (Unfortunately, wont be for a very long time), my friend's shop does anodizing 👀

That's a really good opportunity, though. Your friend might even do it cheaper than someone else.
