Get a 3900x instead of the xt (if you can’t wait until later this year to get 4th gen amd). ~50 saved there

Buy the Windows license from eBay. Same key for like $5. You might get a bad key or two, but with ebays buyer protection, you get a refund so there is basically no risk. Almost $150 saved

No need for a 1000w platinum psu. Get something like the Corsair RMx series (more good options in the psu tier list linked in my signature). That should save you $75-100

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Quote or tag me so I can see your response

You don't use 2080ti as a placeholder, you would loose 30% in 2 months. I suggest 2060, 30% out of that would be less painful.

Out of the above, i cannot give you any suggestion except for the windows, you can get a cheap $10 key at ebay.

When are you going to build this? Ryzen 4000 is launching in fall too.

Where you can save money is by going with a decent b550 board (they have 90% of the features for half the price and I don't see anything that would need the extra features here), 32gb of ram, not getting windows 10 from a store but from ebay, getting a cheaper cooler (you really don't need a nhd15 for that cpu), getting a cheaper ssd that is still very good. Getting a 550w psu as that is more than plenty for this system 1000w is beyond overkill and not getting rgb fans.

PSU, Mobo, CPU, can all be cut pretty heavily. Also, can save A LOT by going a GPU step down... but really mobo and PSU being cut down can save you 200 bucks right there, assuming you also cut the CPU down a notch as well.

But yes, def wait for Ryzen 4000 if you can.

This is one of these partslists that are put together as a Here look i can make $4000 Build. I dont think you are serious in the least bit. But heres an adjusted list for something you may actually use. Dont think you actually need all those fans and you can get a windows key for 15$ and that PSU is way too much.

i see, well if you expect the next rtx card going to be at that price, that won't happen.

historically, nvidia upping the price by 20% for the newer gen.

so you gonna have to tune down most of the parts.

and wait for ryzen 4000 if you're not in a rush.

I would advise waiting a month for the new GPUs and AMD CPUs to drop before building a new computer, right now is literally the worst time to buy for many many reasons. Wait to even do the part list until they are out and available, making one now will just be speculation on price and we could be wrong.

I wouldn't mess with the windows license but that's your choice.

Other than that I'd kinda go with Shimejii's suggestions

Some notes:

  • FPS in games does not drastically improve from a lowly 3600 to the 3900x https://www.techspot.com/review/1897-ryzen-5-ryzen-9-core-i9-gaming-scaling/
So the 3700 is a much better budget option.
  • There are better value X570 boards but you'd have to do more research based on things like the gamers nexus review on those boards.
  • 1000W PSU is DUMB and no one should ever need this unless you are doing a $10k build with quad SLI or something stupid.
If you buy a 1000W psu you are compensating for peen size.

I buy windows 8 with cheap key, upgraded to win 10 for free, and it's still running.

MS don't give a fuss about this, why should we?

Cause I worked at a pc store for a long time, if you bring me a computer with no valid license I don't work on it.

You can absolutely get some working keys on amazon/ebay, they might be old windows 7/8 keys.

Technically they will work but sometimes it wont activate and be a pain in the ass.

If it's not activating, it's not legit. You can ask the sellers for replacement (which good sellers would love to do).

Call MS and they will give you a new one (if the key's legit).

Happened to me upgrading mobos, call ms, they give you new act keys, no question asked.

Like I said, they may work and more often than not they do.

However, it's not technically legal. You cannot legally resell a windows license.

MS is turning a blind eye for the most part and will only audit companies etc. but it's worth it to point out to OP that while this can work its not strictly legal.

Yes, that's why they call it "grey".

$80 on some fans just because of the LEDs

I wanted the fans to match the stock fans, and there were only 3 front fans, so I assumed I needed more airflow.

This is what I based my choice of psu off of:

I originally wanted a titanium rating, but that may be extreme....

https://outervision.com/b/c8vbLx

well dont buy a 1600 watt psu lol, most titanium rated units are OOS these days but you can find em on ebay for reasonable prices. i'd get a seasonic prime ultra titanium, 650w would be more than enough but they make 750 and 850w as well. i ordered a 750w for 90 bucks plus 30 bucks for cables and the 12 year warranty is transferable. even if the seller doesnt have the original invoice youll get about 5 years from mfg date

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

GPU: Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme (also placeholder), deshroud w/ generic 1200rpm 120mm fans x2, stock bios 130% power, no voltage offset: +70 core +400 mem

Memory: 2x16gb GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600C16, 14-15-30-288@1.45v

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S w/ white chromax bling
OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

Like others have said on here the first things that jump out at me are the CPU and power supply.

With less of a CPU, depending on what you choose. You might also be able to drop to a slightly less expensive Noctua cooler.

Don't get me wrong I like Noctua.

1000 watt power supply definitely seems like a place to cut the fat.

Also wondering if a way cheaper keyboard wouldn't get the job done.

I like to type myself though and wouldn't hesitate to get something I liked that felt good.

So I'm on the fence about that one.
