Reusing a PSU EVGA G2 1300W

tjrose91

I had so far no issue with my current PSU an EVGA G2 1300w, i clean it out regularly and happy that it comes with an extra CPU

8pin cable as i am able to run two 8pin CPU cables from the PSU and planning to build a New System with a 10700k and the new MB has a 8+4 CPU header

main question i dont feel the need to get a New PSU when the current one is a Gold Unit and never will exceed 85% power usage with the new system i hope, i am waiting for the new AMD card

i always see build with new PSU's and i always like to reuse anything to save a buck or two and get that better part i want, is there any cons on not getting a new PSU im just happy when i got the PSU in 2014 because i was in a pinch to get my system up and running with an r9 295x2 that needed a high amp 12v rail for the GPU alone and this PSU is really future proof providing two 8pin CPU headers on the PSU

I usually recommend replacing the PSU after the warranty has expired. So I'd say you still have a solid 4 years of use out of that one.

i didnt think about the warranty, i assume that would only be for the PSU

It is, but there's a significantly higher chance of a PSU failing outside of warranty than not.

I dont think that it will fail on you outright for awhile but there are a lot of 80+ bronze psus out there for 80 to 150 that will have better power efficiency and you always want to make sure a very steady amount of power is going to your pc especially with such expensive components and intels power hunger better safe than sorry

right idk if the new 10700k will need the 8+4 CPU power  i always plug all cables anyways

Linus has a few vids where he uses 10 series chips so you should be able to get a good idea of the specs and what to expect using them

The 8pin is all that is required. You can leave the 4pin empty but the G2 1300W came with the second cable if you wanted to use it.

The EVGA G2 is a good PSU. It'll be fine to carry over to your new build.
