Apple Announces that iPhone 12 Launch Will be Delayed

 In an earnings call today, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said that the next generation of iPhones will be launched a few weeks later than usual. This means we likely won’t see the iPhone 12 until early to mid October. This has happened in the past with the iPhone X and XR reportedly due to manufacturing issues. The next generation of iPads are also rumored to be released at the same time as the iPhones.
 Apple's reasoning is that with the release of a cheaper phone earlier in the year and people being stuck at home unsure of whether to upgrade, it would be best to wait to release.

My thoughts

 I am very surprised by this. In the past when the devices (iPhone X and XR) were not ready, they were available later but still announced in early September. I was looking forward to this launch and potentially getting one of the phones (if they made good improvements), so this is quite disappointing.

I wonder if this is going to push back the public release of iOS 14 as well or if we’ll still get that round the normal timeframe, considering the betas seem to be happening pretty much on a normal timeframe.

IIRC, the new ios usually gets released when the new generation of iphones are shipped. If they keep to that, then it will be delayed but I could see Apple releasing it at the usual time of mid September.

I've said this before many times. They'll do the launch just like every year on time, the products will come with slight delay. I don't think that will stop users from pre-ordering and waiting out for Apple's products. If they could camp in front of Apple stores for days, they can sit around at home too.

 

Apple Watch 5 was announced with iPhones, but it got available like a month later. And that's that really. It's not like people will rush to some Android phone because of this...

Normally that’s what happens, but I believe the CFO said it will be announced a few weeks later than usual and available shortly after.

 

Edit: but yes, I totally agree that this won’t stop anyone from buying the new iPhones

This. There isn't enough money in the world to get me to switch off my iPhone, I'd sooner keep an old iPhone than switch to a new android phone, and that's not an unpopular opinion with the general apple fanbase.

Same. I dumped Android phones because of cancerous Google and Android's garbage software support and updating policy. 2 years is nothing and you wait for months to get any update if at all. And I don't care how many thousand Hz displays they have or batteries with capacity of the frigging sun. Those all cost 1000€ which I'm just not gonna pay for a phone that has no support after two years, has same lame delays with updates and still comes with Google cancer. Nope. My iPhone XR might not be the pinnacle of tech, but it works great with what it has to a point I don't care it's just an over-glorified 720p display with small battery and only has 1 camera. The chipset in it on the other hand is still one of best in existence and storage is faaaaast. Everything on it is just so butter smooth I don't even care if it's just 60Hz. And updating, oh my god, the updating is just sublime compared to janky garbage on Android phones.

 

I'm currently not in a market for a new phone just yet, but Androids are entirely out of my picture now because of Google shit and how they do privacy. Custom ROM's are not an option because of banking which shits itself on phones that have unlocked bootloader so I'm stuck with iPhone and I actually don't mind it. iPhone XR serves me really well and I plan on sticking with it until Apple releases a fully notch-less phone. We'll see when that will happen and then I'll go with new iPhone, probably. Apple Watch 5 is still good and I got it because of always on display which was the only thing I didn't like with older ones and AirPods, well those are one of last remaining earphones without fucking silicone dumb tips. It's gonna suck when Apple will sack these in favor of irritating silicone garbage that I don't like at all.

 

But despite not being a buying candidate this year, I'm interested in watching their presentation. They always make everything so slick, smooth and professional it's nice to watch. Just look how weird other companies did it, like Microsoft's garage presentation of new Xbox or PlayStation's rather dull specs in the face presentation (which I liked because I'm a nerd) and then compare that to Apple's WWDC presentation. It's like worlds apart. So yeah, I'm gonna watch it coz it's nice.
