usb soundcard for 5.1 speakers.

Flyguygamer

I am looking to add a 5.1 speaker system to my htpc. I have a mobo with three audio jacks. I have chosen the Logitech Z906 speakers. I need a usb soundcard as I have a gpu in the only pcie slot. What is the best option for me.

Why not use the audio out on the motherboard?

No need for redundant hardware.

I don't think the Asus H87I-PLUS supports 5.1 speakers.

you might be able to reassign the jacks to get 5.1 output.

most realtek's, and some VIA chips will allow it.

Will work for electronic components and parts

According to the manual of your motherboard, it supports  2, 4, 6 and 8 channels on audio,  I guess that means up to 7.1?

Look at chapter 1 page 12 for which jack is which signal.

In 5.1 surround it goes:

Blue- Rear Speakers

Green- Front Speakers

Pink- Bass and Center

Mystery is the source of all true science.
