Used 1070 or brand new RX 580?

In that case, for 200 quid you can get a new 1660 non-Super:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PDT2H55?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Still faster than the 580, newer, much more power efficient, much better video encoder if your mate plans to get into streaming, and not much more expensive.

Or, if he's fine with taking a gamble with the 1070 with no warranty, go with that.

Building a pc for a friend, currently has a GTX 1650 4GB in but im going to return that, so with that money and some extra, theres £200 to play with for a GPU.

As the title says, which one? I can get a used 1070 for roughly £200, or a brand new 580 8GB for £180.

Paired with a ryzen 3 3100, 16gb ram and a 500w psu. Which card and why?

the 1070 will perform better to put it simply, if you are comfortable with going used, then maybe.

what about a 1660 super? which should be a little more expensive, it's new, and comes with warranty.

used 1070 is much better than rx 580. but rx 580 has ocme a long way. once it was worse than 1060 6gb but no it is better since it has good optimizations.

anyway used 1070 is much better

Aerocool integrator, had good reviews on amazon. He purchased the parts anyway, im just here to build.

Found a few 1660 supers on the web, would still need to be used i think as I dont think he wants to budge anymore on money

The 1070 is faster and pulls less power, among other things. The only problem would be the lack of warranty.

How much can you get a 1660 Super for, or even a regular 1660?

well then if you are only limited to these two. 1070 would be better, only bad thing is lack or warranty like what @Mateyyy said.

I would recommend getting a used 580 since u can find the for much cheaper that a 1660 or 1070. Also a 1660 isn't much faster than the 580 and in some newer games the 580 can be very close or unpar with the 1070

@TofuHaroto Aside from the fact i already ordered a 1660 for this build, could we discuss this point just for fun?

This was the only recommendation for the 580 on this thread

are you talking about mateyyy or your friend? if you're talking about your friend then im not sure, but the 1660 is good, does not consume as much power and will be nice.

@TofuHaroto  @owencrispy     not even close lol, here is a techpower up article where they benchmarked cod modern warfare. The 1070 is only beating the 580 by about 8 fps and the 590 is practically tieing with the 1070. Heres the red dead 2 benchmark from techpowerup and u can see the difference between the 1070 and a 580 is 7fps and its only beating the 590 by 2fps. Heres doom eternal where the difference between the 1070 and  the 580 is around 16fps but the difference between the 590 and the 1070 is only 3fps. Resedient evil 3 the 580 is around 14fps slower that the 1070 but then again the 590 is only 6 fps slower. Just remember the 590 is just a overclocked 580 and you should be able to hit those clock speeds if you overclock and if u think they just cherry picked some benchmarks all sent u techpowerups 5500xt review from May 5th and we will see how many games the 1070 wins by big margins. And lets not get started with the 1660 because in some games the 1660 will even lose to a 1070 making closer to a 580 but in some games it beats a 1070. So the reason i would recommend the 580 is because it isn't beaten by around 20fps where its noticeable by the 1070 and 1660 in some games and the price performance ratio is really good with the 580 compared to other cards/

im sorry but  the 5500xt is identical to the 580.. and the 1660, is theoretically faster than both the 5500xt and the 580. not by a lot, but it is still somewhat faster.

Technically its not? pretty sure sapphire nitro rx 580s can clock just as high when overclocked  and i never said a 580 beats a 1660 nor 1070 if you read what I wrote all i said is that the trend is in some newer games the 580 is really close or unpar with a 1070 and all the games I listed should be from 2020 or late 2019. Also the like I said the reason why i recommended the 580 is because of it price/performance ratio compared to other cards

What I mean is manually overclocking to hit the 590s speed sand that specifically i know that a lot of the sapphire nitro versions can hit 590s speed when overclock. You know overclocking where I raise the Gpu voltages, power limits and clock speeds
