I will soon need a new electric razor.

I've been using them for almost 40 years.

I did extensive comparisons and in the past Braun was head and shoulders better than the others.

Unfortunately  they were bought out by an American company that jacked up the price and added useless things.

I prefer the Blade and Foil to the 3 rotating disks that Norelco has.

“Shaver” isn’t very specific.  Face shaver? Beard trimmer? Head hair trimmer?  Is hair curly? ( so round or lens shaped hairs) head hair can be very different than various types of body hair.  Facial hair is one type of body hair.  There’s also skin to worry about for shaving.  Different people have different types of skin too.

perhaps the image is making it confusing.  The man pictured has a shaved head and short beard.

I agree with @Intrafinesse on the Braun shavers. I've had mine for over 10 years, and it still works flawlessly. I haven't even changed the foil/blades in probably 8 years.

It was a more expensive model though, probably about $300US.

You can also check out Panasonic, they're probably second on the list.

Before you buy check the price of the heads, you will have to change in 2 years, so that's a thought.

Not necessarily, depends how often you shave, the coarseness of your hair, etc etc.

I have a Panasonic ES-SL41.

An older model, cheaper model, than the new ones currently on the market. I easily get a clean shave with it, without hard beard bristles left over. Never drew blood with it either. (Though if you've never used an electric shaver before, you might)

I use the Wahl Model 5622. Only had it for about 6 months. Usually use it on my face for my goatee, but since COVID I've been using it on the sides of my head for a self trim. It's a little slow on the head because it's a small trimmer but haven't had issues with it bogging down and I have pretty thick hair. I do use a different oil than it comes with, but that's out of habit.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I have a 790cc that's currently on it's way out

Background which may be useful to other posters:

790cc is a foil type face shaver with a not very effective beard trimmer.  I had one very similar at one point.  Then I grew a partial beard and now use a completely different device.  It also has the braun liquid washing system available which was famous for obnoxiously proprietary cartridges that held alcohol with a bit of mineral oil in them.  Numerous ways to open and recycle the cartridges were tried.  The most effective was a system that routered out the seal and replaced it with an eleastic band friction seal.  Reduced continuing cost by a factor of 5.  Braun hates it and redesigned the cartridge several times to make it more difficult

I’ll have nothing for you then Myself unless you suffer from shaving bumps.  That you seem to be looking for a foil shaver is useful though.  I think they work better but some people don’t like them.

Without negating your point, It can be done with floating blade shavers.  Just scrub too hard.  With a foil shaver the foil needs to be broken.  Both types can have pop out beard trimmers which can do it.

I use a Phillips Beard trimmer series 3000 (~1 year now), been through 5 or so other brands in the last 4 years (I'm a digital nomad and travel around the world alot).. so far so good. Battery stays charged, the plastic bits don't snap easily like I've had on other brands.

I find beard trimmers to be a special case.  Beards can be simultaneously very dense and tough.  Head hair is thinner(finer?) and body hair is more sparse. My solution has been to abandon battery powered trimmers and go with an industrial corded model.  I have an andis “t-edger”  Something that perhaps wouldn’t work well for someone having to deal with different plugs and voltages.  I found myself unable to find a battery powered device strong enough to cut the hair ends instead of breaking or shredding them.  It also required blades so strong and sharp that stainless steel was inadequate.  The blades are tool steel. (So they rust. The thing has to be sprayed down with oil after every use) Metal alloys and battery tech may have sufficiently improved though.  I haven’t looked for a new one in a while.

I used Andis stuff on our Harrier Beagle when he was shedding like mad haha!

Yeah beard stuff can be a PITA, I had mine almost biker beard length at one point, was hard to keep tidy and the trimmers weren't adequate enough. I've reduced the length due to the cost of a decent trimmer. The plugs weren't so much an issue as the battery connection was, I had to sketchily solder the lead back on one of them, and another i had to pop the case off to put the battery in my old vape battery charger to charge it (lost the charger as it was a little tiny small cable)

re: dog trimmer

That trimmer probably wouldn’t work for people.  Trimmers need to be designed for a particular type of hair

re: vape

Yah. Internal battery vapers have this nasty tendency towards microUSB2 which has all kinds of problems.  I wound up going 18650 and chargers.  Makes for a big device but the instant recharge with battery swap is awesome. Running a GeekVape ageis atm.  Thing was pricey but it’s lasted years.  Batteries wear out but they’re only ~$8 for the good ones.  More cord problems for the charger of course, plus LiIon batteries are a pita to carry on a plane.

re: corded trimmers

I understand there is or was a competing trimmer to the one I use called a peanut.  Much less expensive.  Still corded.  Industrial equipment tends to be not cheap in general, plus its only available at beauty supply stores.  There seem to be a ton of those around lately though.  I think I paid $100 for my device. It’s considered a bit old fashioned I understand.  Last time I bought replacement blades a few years ago (accidentally let the ones I had rust) I was warned by the shopkeeper that the things didn’t have stainless blades implying there was something better out there.  The thing the andis does have is a lot of power.  This seems to be key for beards.

I use a Wahl hair trimmer to do my beard. Partly because the beard trimmer struggles with my thick beard. Plus I tend to trim my beard around the same time I cut the hair.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
