I’d advise against it. They are consistently outperformed by cheaper clones like Kailh and Gateron.

GMMK TKL with Box Browns or similar is the best choice.

Have you ever tried a MX Brown? If you think that a Kailh Brown feels terrible and has no tactile feedback, then I’d love to know what you think an MX Brown feels like.

i never tried but i think its linus' or someone's favorite key and if it feels anything like the kailh brown which is basically a membrane key i dont think it would be their favorite

So you are basing a key’s tactility and feel on someone else’s opinion without ever trying it?

Some people like membrane keyboard, that their opinion.

However, I will say that the Kailh is significantly more tactile than the MX.

Also, if you are looking for Tactility in a switch, get a Tealios V2.

well yes sorry im not going to buy a 80 dollar keyboard just to see how it feels so im going to go by the opinion of someone i trust. and i dont like membrane keyboards but the cheapo rubber dome keyboard that i used before getting a cherry mx blue has much more tactile feedback than the kailh brown keyboard. though i should have known when an RGB led keyboard only costs 39 dollars that its going to be crap i guess. and sure ill get a tealios v2 keyboard when my cherry mx blue keyboard dies which might be never lol

There are these things called ‘switch testers’ which you can get for $20 on Amazon and have 9 switches so you can test multiple.

like idk did kailh improve their QA by a lot or something? i remember for a long time its been general consensus that kailh keys are a bit more scratchy and had a more inconsistent in the feel between keys on the same keyboard than cherry. like they work fine but they are not to the same quality standards @gloop

You mentioned Kailh BOX Brown, while @spartaman64 mentioned Kailh Brown (not BOX).

Kailh Brown is quite similar to Cherry MX Brown in my experience, if not worse. Kailh BOX Brown is better, but it's still not an amazing tactile switch IMO.

mx brown switches

rgb would be nice

is ten-keyless or less (but would like the arrow keys)

under £150

Switch preference is very personal. Have you considered other swiches already, or at least have you tried MX Browns in person?

There are a ton of different tactile switches, but Cherry MX Brown is known to be quite a bit 'scratchier' than many of its alternatives.

I think the GMMK +  Any switch you like + caps is a pretty good option, as it's not too expensive and provides a nice set (plus you can even change the keyswitches out in the future).

Hey there. Since you mentioned Euros, I'm going to assume you're looking for ISO layout? If my assumption is wrong, there are also ANSI alternatives to each board. Here're some suggestions and links:

  • Ducky One 2 SF (Pure White available for £124.99 Overclockers UK): Compact 65%. Cherry MX Brown switches. RGB.
    • Black variants are also available, but seem to be sold out on Overclockers UK. I haven't checked out other sites because I'm not too familiar with UK keyboard vendors.
  • Ducky One 2 (Pure White available for £148.99 on Overclockers UK): TKL. Cherry MX Brown switches. RGB.
    • Black variants are also available, but seem to be sold out on Overclockers UK. I haven't checked out other sites because I'm not too familiar with UK keyboard vendors.
  • Keychron K2 (Available for $69.00, or ≈ £60.00, on Keychron): Compact 75%. Gateron Brown switches. RGB. Wireless.
    • Additional import duties and fees may be charged.
    • Currently out of stock. Perhaps check back later?
  • The GMMK Keyboard Kit (Available for $119.97 - $124.97, or ≈ £104.24 - £108.59, on Glorious PC Gaming Race): TKL or Compact 60%. Gateron Brown or Kailh BOX Brown switches. RGB. Hot-Swappable PCB.
    • Additional import duties and fees may be charged.
    • The TKL is currently out of stock. Perhaps check back later?

The ones that I linked are Ducky One 2/One SF Pure Whites, which do be available. The black variants (Ducky One 2, Ducky One SF) seem to be out of stock?

He said Kailh Box brown, not Kailh brown. They are different. The box switches are considerably more tactile. The non box kail brown is basically the same as MX brown only not as scratchy.

i was thinking about building my own but it seems a bit too complicated. The gmmk looks good. I have no idea which switches to go with now, there are so many! I have a keyboard at the moment which has outemu blues which i find are too loud and take too much force to press down. I have a cherry mx switch tester but i still don't know. I dontt like the reds because they are not tactile at all so i dont know when i press it down. The browns are quite nice but are a bit mushy and when pressing them fast they feel similar to reds just not as smooth. I am not familar with the other brands like kailh and gateron. Do you think any of those would be better?

Sounds like you want a smoother and more tactile switch than an MX brown. Kailh BOX tactile switches are a good choice. Box Brown, Box Burnt Orange and Box Royal all fit the bill. Also there's the Kailh Pro Purple, which is not a box design but still fits your criteria. If money is not an consideration then you should look at Zealios V2, these are $1 per switch, so not cheap.

Sorry, its been a while. I am thinking of buying a keyboard tomorrow and I think I have decided on mx browns and a ducky one 2 sf (although i cant really find them in stock anywhere). Its just im not to keen on going with box browns as I dont think they are very tactile? and they are much cheaper than cherry so I guess they aren't as good quality or less people like them. not sure if I am right. I have brought a switch tester and like the cherry browns the most out of all the cherry ones because the actuation force isnt too high and they are slightly tactile.

They are significantly more tactile than MX Browns. I have both kinds of switches on hand right now, it's not even close. Also Cherrys are just overpriced. They're not better or worse in terms of durability than any other mechanical.

You don't need any skill to "build" gmmk, you just put in the switches and caps and you are done. It's that easy. No soldering or anything is required.
