Start upgrade now or wait? Gaming at 1440p

My current system is now 3 years old (almost to the day) and I've got the itch to upgrade - not really out of necessity, but watching too many youtube build videos :/

I really want another 3 years out of my next parts, hence the dilemma. I'm currently 100% GPU bound due to the Resolution so I don't see a point in doing a CPU upgrade now as I'm not going to buy a RTX2000 series card.

So many Zen2 deals now! Talk me off the ledge!!

Is there a point in upgrading CPU/MOBO/RAM now then getting RTX 3070/ti when released later in the year? Or would you just wait it out for the Zen3 release and do it all at once?

Budget: ~$1000  (Phase 1 CPU/MOBO/RAM + Phase 2 GPU)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and Streaming

Your graphics card is under more load than your CPU...?

I'd have thought the two you have are pretty balanced.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

I think it's a combination of CPU OC and Resolution.

I did another run on Highest but at 1080p and things look better for the GPU, but the whole yes I think its a balance system except for my res :)

What about with DX12 switched off...?

Wow quiet the difference in % GPU bound but no real gain in FPS 55 vs 54 DX12

Highest 1440p

Not saying they can't use it, but to my mind a 1070 isn't really a DX12 card... that may be the best you'll get, for now but holding off for Big Navi & RTX 3xxx is advisable, even if it results in less expensive 2xxx units.

BTW... function over aesthetics...  :D

Yeah I think I'll just do that. I'm probably just going to get a new case (P500a or Lan cool 2 Mesh) and ram for now to scratch the upgrade itch.
