Corsair RM650 or Seasonic GX750 for a 2070 build?

I want a 650w/750w power supply but I don't know what to choose. The seasonic or the corsair? They are both £100. And I want more watts than needed for future upgrades.

From my experience the RM series is really good, so i would suggest that, seasonic also makes very reliable units, I'd feel confortable buying both

in case you were curious this is the PSU tier list

Main PC [The Rig of Theseus]:

CPU: i5-8600K @ 5.0 GHz | GPU: GTX 1660 | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic | PSU: Corsair RM 650i | SSD: Corsair MP510 480 GB |  HDD: 2x 6 TB WD Red| Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Secondary PC [Why did I bother]:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G | GPU: Vega 3 iGPU | RAM: 8 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Corsair 88R | PSU: Corsair VS 650 | SSD: WD Green M.2 SATA 120 GB | Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Server [Solution in search of a problem]:

Model: HP DL360e Gen8 | CPU: 1x Xeon E5-2430L v1 | RAM: 12 GB DDR3 1066 MHz | SSD: Kingston A400 120 GB | OS: VMware ESXi 7

Laptop:

Sony SAL-75300 75-300mm ƒ/4.5-5.6

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

Give your parts to PC Part Picker System Builder - that'll give you a decaent idea what you'll need for PSU detail.

Go for summat ~25% more than their estimation for good measure.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

In that case, I may as well go for the seasonic because I am getting an extra 100w for the same price.

I'll go with none of the above.

The RM550x and Ion+ 560W are in stock and available for less at Alza.co.uk, and the Ion+ 560W is available for £100 on Scan. Either of those would be better options. There is more to a PSU than just the wattage.

Both the RM and GX lack multi rail. Which one did you think had multi rail?

I agree with seon. the ion+ units are cheap right now, no reason not to get one (yes, they're not multi-rail, but none of the others are. Also, you don't really need a multi-rail unit for such low wattages)

It is but human, to err, to buy a PSU, akin to dirt,

but fret not, young Padawan, for we will tell you,

what will become, of that, which you have earned

Just out of curiosity what makes the ion better than the focus gx? Are you basing that just off of efficiency rating?

I do not care about the efficiency rating. The performance of the Ion+ is not quite as good as the Focus Plus, however it is still more than good enough. What will matter more is that the Ion+ is quieter than the Focus Plus at the same loads. As both lack multi rail OCP, and the 560W is more than enough to power the system, the 750W just increases the damage potential (in case of an unlikely catastrophic failure), while not really adding any benefits.

I understand all that I was just curious. I personally like the focus more because it’s 10mm smaller in case you have a cramped psu housing. 150 isn’t big either but it’s still a plus. Also if he did get a 750 watt, since it’s farther away from max load I’m not really sure if sound would be beaten. If they were both 550 watts sure the ion would beat it out, but that’s not what we’re comparing. Obviously I do not have the charts for this so take that with a grain of salt I could be wrong. My focus px is whisper quiet. I appreciate the reply and I agree both are great units.

Can’t go wrong with seasonic. They’re support team are amazing,I like that it’s smaller so it’s more roomy downstairs in the case. Seasonic has been known to be a great brand (they’ve had crap units obviously) but their good units are top tier and this is a good unit.

1-2 cm of extra depth is typically not an issue in a normal ATX case. As I said, they will not currently benefit from the extra wattage, but lowering risk is something one will always benefit from. The noise is taken from the reviews of both on THW (pretty sure they're both on Cybenetics as well). Seasonic likes to use a mediocre Hong Hua fan on their PSUs, which is not good at moving air (the Hong Hua fan on the Corsair RM needs to spin much faster than the NR135 on the RMx), and it has an annoying ticking sound at lower RPMs. That's not an issue if the rest of the PC is loud, but for someone with a quiet PC, it will be annoying.

:)
