is there a way to keep the phone on 5g only?

No, Your phone automatically switches to the stronger signal for best reception and service. This is by design.

Both. All cellular systems are designed this way.

There is no end user access way to change this behavior.

why would you want to force it?

Normally this switch will be much better than you at picking the correct bands.

A good lte is much better than a bad 5g, so let it do its thing.

Why? You'd essentially make your phone useless most of the time.
What are you doing that you feel 5G speeds are necessary?

5g just came out and is very unstable. The only way to stay on 5g is to stay extremely close to the 5g node. It's not just you, even I'm having that issue and many many others are also facing the same issue with 5g since 5g is new it's unstable. So stay close to the 5g node in your area, but it's not just you many others are having the same issue, and it's because 5g's new and unstable. Your best bet is to stay close to the 5g node.

lol I've never seen someone repeat themselves so many times in a single post before.

So when your in an area without 5G, what do you want, No service? Phones switch between network types when you come in and out of a coverage area. Hell not all areas even have good 4G let alone 5G services. 5G is very new and only in a few places. There is actually a lot of people fighting against 5G and also governments trying to make sure Chinese Cellular transmitter companies like Huawei are not being used, that significantly slows down the process.

Also consider what your provider uses as bands. Because that makes a difference in terms of coverage area.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
