If you're just gaming, you probably don't need neither a 10900K nor a 3900X/3950X.

What's your budget?

Throw out the Future proof. It was so yesterday. Tomorrow's Cpu release AMD around September'ish.....

Can't compare Cpu that's not released to One that already is.

Option 1: Wait

Option 2: Intel OC'ed getting better frame rates

Option 3: slightly lower FPS at a much better efficiency (draws less and runs cooler)

if gaming is your only concern than something like a 3700x and a b550/x570 combo should work or if you want to go intel then a 10600k and a z490 would work as well

Yeah get a 10600K, a Z490 Tomahawk or Gaming Edge WIFI and some 3600MHz CL16 or 3200MHz CL14 memory; 16GB will be enough for gaming.

What resolution monitor will you game at?

1080p is nice for high fps but will be hell for a unity/dev workspace...

As such, likely youll opt for 1440p middleground, and then, depending on titles played youll be gpu bound likely anyway.

Id say, save bucks by going amd, if you want to learn unitt youll venture jnto other stuff as well and youll appreciate the allroundness of a 3x00 processor more than the 5% higher fps or so if going intel.

Just my 2cts, your milage may vary etc. (Fwiw, i recently went team red and have been very happy with it).

If you only or mostly play games, more precisely the i5 10600k (which, If you are limited to 250 USD can perform really well even in other kinds of workloads), If you do more prductive workloads and have a higher budget go for AMD, a 3700x or a 3900x are really good processors and will absolutely crush the competition (for the price).

Main PC [The Rig of Theseus]:

CPU: i5-8600K @ 5.0 GHz | GPU: GTX 1660 | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic | PSU: Corsair RM 650i | SSD: Corsair MP510 480 GB |  HDD: 2x 6 TB WD Red| Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Secondary PC [Why did I bother]:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G | GPU: Vega 3 iGPU | RAM: 8 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Corsair 88R | PSU: Corsair VS 650 | SSD: WD Green M.2 SATA 120 GB | Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Server [Solution in search of a problem]:

Model: HP DL360e Gen8 | CPU: 1x Xeon E5-2430L v1 | RAM: 12 GB DDR3 1066 MHz | SSD: Kingston A400 120 GB | OS: VMware ESXi 7

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

For an all gaming PC consider the i5-10600k.

Watch these, long, but provides great info.
