Any reason Epoccam wasnt used?

I've found that its really easy to use and offers both a free version that only goes up to 720p and a pro app that is only a few bucks and goes up to 1080p. You can also use a hardwired connection so battery life isn't an issue.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Okay, so you have your phone as a mic and camera. How does that data go from the phone to the PC, via the USB cable? If so, battery life isn't gonna matter much, right?

I use Iriun Cam (on a Pixel 4 XL) and get 1080 (or higher) for the free version. Those apps, though, are the first apps suggested in many pages (when I did my search, anyways) on various sites, so I doubt too much time was spent looking in to all the various options. Though, Epoccam and Iriun are similarly good options, in case anyone else reading this would like some other options.

The apps act as "micro-servers" (for lack of a better/proper term) so you don't need to have anything connected. The video/audio signal is pushed out to the website listed over your network. The IP address, though, is (in my experience) on on your own network (just like a new phone or laptop connecting to your wifi).

An interesting thing to note: Android apparently doesn't allow app developers to have any direct control of the camera functionality, like Apple does. Aftermarket camera apps on Android are essentially "screen capturing" what the default camera software is seeing. For this reason, the Android apps tend to not have the ability to tap-to-focus (from the apps I tested, anyways). Supposedly, iPhone apps do have that functionality.
