color shift on CRT tv...

so my main tv, which is a CRT (yes, i know) has developed a problem. this first appeared like a year ago but only happened once, so i didn't freak out about it but it happened again now. the bottom left corner of the screen will shift colors. for example when blue is supposed to be on screen it shows pink, when red is on screen it shows green.

the weird thing is, it only does this after extended use (2+ hours) and it's fixed by just turning the tv off and then back on.

however is this something i need to be concerned with? i'd really rather not replace the tv. if this is caused by a failing component, i have access to a good workshop and equipment to work on it safely, so i could replace a part inside if that's needed.

Does your monitor have a "degauss" option? If so, try using it. Could be caused by some metal parts slowly becoming magnetized, influencing the electron beam negatively. Degauss should de-magnetize them again.

it's a TV, but no, it does not have an option for that. but i doubt it's that since turning it off and then immediately back on again fixes it... if it needed degaussing wouldn't the issue persist?

I think some screens, especially TVs, will auto-degauss when you turn them on. Can't think of another problem that would cause such a shift in color that is only temporary. If it was a more serious issue with the electron-gun or phosphor, I don't think it would go away after turning it off and on.

hmmm well this TV is from the 90's so maybe that helps too, it likely has basically every feature a CRT tv could have since it was a high end unit in the 90's.

Any large magnets nearby ? Like a speaker/woofer for example ?

uhhhh yes, 2 large speakers on either side of the TV, as well as a center channel speaker on top of it. should i move the speakers or the tv?

Well... that sure looks like something that might magnetize stuff after a period of time :D You could try moving the speakers further away from the TV

Try moving both speakers away from the TV as a test. There's a large chance the speaker magnets are the cause. The reason the picture is normal when you first turn on the TV is because the degaussing coils are briefly activated each time the TV is turned on cold.

Not a specialist, but some "shielding" might do if e.g. you could attach it to the side of the speakers: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/how-to-magnetically-shield-a-speaker

Perhaps you could wall-mount the speakers?

maybe... hmmm how far away should i position them? i have about 5cm of room for each. i doubt the center speaker is a problem because it's on top of 2 other pieces of equipment.

Depends on how strong those magnets are, you'd have to test.
