Ryzen 5 3600 idles only while task manager is open.

Title explains it all I think, but basically what is happening is that my Ryzen 5 3600 will only drop clock speeds, voltage etc. if I have task manager open. If I don't, it will stay pinned at 4-4,1GHz. Ryzen Balanced or Ryzen Performance power plan seems to make no difference. I am running the latest chipset driver and the latest available bios. I have Logitech G hub and FalconX running in the background at all times, but closing those makes no difference either. Everything that has to do with with the processor is set to auto in bios, my ram is overclocked from 2666MHz to 3200MHz though.  My google-fu turned up nothing, please help.

-CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

-RAM: 2x8GB HyperX Fury 2666MHz

-Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming

-GPU: GTX 1070

-Boot drive: Kingston A2000 250GB NVMe M.2 SSD

-PSU: Seasonic 650W, unsure about exact model

-OS: Windows 10 Pro 1909 64bit

Certainly could be software trying to hide its presence by going idle as soon as you open task manager. You could try "tricking" it by using alternate means to see running tasks.

 

Even if load drops to zero, you should still be able to find processes that run all the time if you look at the "cpu time" column. It should have a high value there. You could also try a command line tool like "tasklist", or maybe open resource monitor in the hopes the process doesn't watch for it as well.

Kinda just seems like normal idle behavior for ryzen. 

 

Unless the CPU is actually pulling power to do work, there is seemingly nothing wrong.

 

The CPU rarely decreases its clockspeed and as such hovers around 4,1ghz. 

 

Edit: what is hardwareinfo reporting load wise. As ghz does not describe how much load the CPU is under

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. I ran a windows defender and a malwarebytes scan, they both found some stuff such as keygens and other totally legitimate software I definitely didn't torrent. I doubted they were the issues but got rid of them anyway through windows defender and malwarebytes. The issue still persists sadly.

This doesn't seem to be the case. I ended up formatting my PC. Now with only Ryzen Master running, the processor is idling around 35-40C, clocks speeds drop as low as 300MHz and core voltage drops well below 1V, even with the Ryzen Performance power plan. Seems it was some pesky miningware afterall that I couldn't get rid of with Windows Defender or Malwarebytes.

That is something you will also see ryzen do.

 

But constant boosting at low current loads is fairly common.
