Is this build good enough for basic AutoCAD/SolidWorks?

Hi, I may do a PC for a client, however I am intrigued wether I need a NVidia GPU, Radeon GPU or if the iGPU on a Ryzen 5 3400G will suffice. The use case is SketchApp, basic SolidWorks and AutoCAD (2015), alongside Acrobat Pro (Adobe) and MS Office.

These are the Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G APU (4C/8T  3.7GHz Base, 4.2 GHz Boost, 12nm, Zen+)

Graphics: AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 12nm (11CUs, 704SPs, 1750MHz)

Cooler: AMD Wraith Spire

RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 CL16 (2x8GB)

Motherboard: ASRock B450M Steel Legend

Storage: WD Blue 3D NAND M.2 SATA SSD (500GB) OR AddLink S70 M.2 NVMe SSD 512GB

PSU: Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Semi Modular PSU

Case: Cooler Master NR400 mATX Mini Tower

If a dGPU is needed these are the options due to local pricing and availability (I’m not in the US rn)

Nvidia: GeForce GTX 1660Ti (12nm, Turing TU116, 1536 CUDA Cores, 6GB GDDR6)

AMD: Radeon RX 590 (12nm, GCN 4 Polaris, Polaris 30, 36CUs, 2304SPs, 8GB GDDR5)

If a dGPU is selected CPU will be changed to a Ryzen 5 3600X (Zen2, 7nm, 6C/12T, 3.9GHz Base, 4.4 GHz Boost) due to local availability the 3600 is not an option currently. Also PSU would be upgraded to a 650W Model.

So, do you think the 3400G and its Vega 11 iGPU will suffice for basic AutoCAD and SolidWorks or should I go for a dGPU, and if that’s the case, for this use case in particular, is Radeon or Nvidia recommended?

The 1660ti and a 3600x is much better

You don't need a 650W for that combo

Its also a lot more expensive, but is it needed or does the 3400G meet the minimum spec? Like we are talking $149 vs $219 + $279 for the other combo

AutoCAD is a demanding use case. The 3400G can run it but anything past a cube will be a nightmare to work on. Get the Ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660 Ti. The 3600X is not needed.

Autocad runs on a potato. You can't do much on it but for drawing a single qube it would be good enough.

Depending on your basic a 3400G is enough.

Then I will buy the 3400G, it is just for viewing in AutoCAD, not much more

Then 3600X + 1660 Ti. It's worth it. Along with 16GB RAM

Does SolidWorks and AutoCAD like Nvidia better than Radeon then? Despite Radeon crazy good OpenCL perf

a bit yes. Both work, just the 1660 Ti will work better than the 580

@GDRRiley Anupdate on the workloads, the 3400G will only use AutoCAD in 2D, afaik that’s not as demanding and 3400G should run it decently (2D). What are your thoughts?
