1070 OC stable during benchmark but crashes ingame

BestWinnerKid

Hey all,

First post and first time overclocking. I have an EVGA 1070 SC edition that I am trying to squeeze a little more power out of because I just upgraded my monitor.

Currently in MSI I have voltage and power limit maxed out with +138 core and +525 memory.

It gets through Time Spy just fine and gives a score of 6058 (6254 graphics/5149 CPU not sure if that matters) but I have had multiple crashes while playing Monster Hunter World.

If the clock is stable after multiple benchmarks why would it be crashing in game? I'm totally new to this so any advice would help greatly.

Thanks!

I haven't tried removing the OC but I've had this card for a while and have played a lot of MHW without any crashes before I tried to OC. The crash doesn't occur until about 25 minutes into the game so it's a bit of a pain to replicate. As of yesterday I was playing the same game with the same card un-OC'd with no issues

yeah I assumed I would have to do that. I just didn't know if the fact that games are crashing even though the OC was stable during benchmarks was indicative of some other issue

^ This. When it runs stable without OC, the OC is just too much and makes dialling it back (or completely discarding any OC) the only option to get it to run stable.

Okay cool. Bummer I have to tune it back but glad there isn't some larger issue. Thanks!

There's a difference between OC stable, and game stable. That's why finding the perfect OC is a lengthy process.

the best is test it with a few games...or you can try using the oc scanner in msi afterburner test...usually it will work well if it pass with 90%...

Back to the laboratory I guess. Thanks for the tips.

it's not stable.

In Time Spy the card will hit the max power limit before it can reach the max clock. That's why it's stable there. At least for your current voltage stepping.
