Is there any major difference between the 2080ti Models?

zzzf

Hey guys, building my computer next week and I've settled on a 3900x/2080ti build in an NZXT H510 Elite case as I already have it and it's been growing on me... so the airflow won't be great as is - with that in mind I'm lost on which 2080ti to get with so many models its easy to not see if theres any difference other than aesthetics.

I wanted to get a 2080ti Founders Edition b/c of looks but seems like it has poor cooling / so with a bad airflow case it seems like a poor decision

I can either get a 2080ti MSI Gaming X Trio, EVGA 2080ti XC Ultra (2 Fan Card) or the 2080ti Founders Edition.

I'm gonna have my 3900x cooled with an AIO, which will be mounted to the front fan area, and then I'll have the standard 1 fan on top, 1 on/towards the back, and the 2 front case fans, incase that may help paint a picture of the cooling! So my question is, is there any major performance difference between these cards? Or does it just go down to what looks the best aesthetically?

I also have seen conflicting user posts about the MSI having better / worse power balancing due to the additional PSU connector it requires compared to all the other 2080ti's - would that factor in here? I'm not planning on massively overclocking anything immediately so for the most part things would run at stock or a stable OC

Thanks

Asus does not make the XC Ultra, EVGA does.

From what I've seen the Trio and XC Ultra are neck and neck in thernals with founders sitting a bit behind. Performance difference will basically be none as the two custom cards have pretty high power limits and factory overclocks while founders card benefit from binned silicon.

Not a factor for you. It's just something interesting to talk about when it comes to tech.

Thanks - good catch, edited that lol meant EVGA

And definitely an interesting topic in tech, I mean it's essentially free performance that you may get which is always exciting.

So seems like it's just down to aesthetics/price then? I've heard EVGA has better customer support - so I guess that'll be a factor too but I'm buying from a certified retailer so returns shouldn't be too bad in the beginning period if anythings wrong from the start

Should save like $500 and just buy a 2080 super

just buy the GPU with the best cooler for the cheapest price

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Usually triple fans > dual fans. I'm sure people only buy the founders for water cooling. I would look at water cooling for a high end card.

Tbh that is the smarter decision but the 2080ti's within the budget and I've been eyeing it long enough that I guess it's time :P

All 3, the FE/EVGA XC Ultra /MSI Trio are within the same price range due to coupon so like $30-50 difference at most between them (atleast the EVGA and MSI, I know that the NVIDIA is a little bit cheaper) so I guess that's not a major factor either.

What do you think - if I run the MSI Trio (327mm) I'll be left with about 5mm of space between the end of the GPU and my AIO radiator; but if I run the EVGA (270mm) I'll be left with ~55 mm of space; the trade-off is obviously 1 fan on the GPU but that'd allow me to add some extra fans on the inside of the case/on top of the radiator for a push/pull config?

Idk - I'm still newer to building computers and that's just an idea I had read on another post somewhere along this way

See this is what I was under the impression of as well - but I've heard that MSI didn't do as great of a job as they could have done with the 2080ti's but idk

I used to have a 2070 Gaming X from MSI and that card was beautiful and ran amazingly - but sagged a ton

Anxious to take apart a 1k+ GPU to water cool it myself, so I'll look into hybrid cards but most are so expensive

Either way, appreciate your input - thanks!

Cool - I'll just try my luck with the EVGA as I can get that sooner and seems to be more favorable

Worst case I'll switch to a 2080 Super or the MSI :P

Seems like I have an answer.......but if anyone has additional insight please feel free to add on because I will still be debating on one vs the other, until my system is on and built and running

you are water cooling your cpu but you fear pulling apart your GPU? Go for it man.

The 3080ti isn't too far away
