The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled

you have 2 m.2 slots and 6 sata slots.

if you populate both m.2 slots, 1 of the sata slots gets disabled, leaving you with 5. so this is only relevant if you were planning on havin 6 sata devices.

this means that when you plug your m.2ssd, it disables one sata port. you are fine

This is my first time building PC so sorry if I sound dumb, but what would I need the 6 sata devices for ?

2.5/3.5 inch SSDs and HDDs mostly.

 

Its been so long since I had an internal DVD drive but I guess those too? (10 years now...)

 

I use four of my 6, one is disabled as I have an m.2. Three SSDs and a HDD. I don’t need that many but two are tiny and just game drives, I’ve had them for years so are not costing me anything.

usually you have ssds and hdds connecting via sata. there are other types of devices as well. but generally, people don't use more than 2-3 of the sata ports, unless you're building a server with 6 drives in it.

HDD/SSD/ODD - and I actually used a ODD the other day so left it in my machine...I felt so 90's
