Intel is releasing the 10900K soon-ish maybe. Not confirmed but rumored to be released in the next month.

Then AMD is going to release 4000 series Ryzen probably closer to August-ish.

Neither of these launches are set in stone because of Covid though.

If I can't afford it, how is it better?

well intel really wont be releasing anything "better" in the sense for gaming. the next up being the 10900k. which is the same but with 10 cores.

AMD we dont exactly know what to expect performance wise. tho likely to take crown or parity in gaming performance.

I heard amd is moving towards more threads and 5 nm chips

5nm isnt this year. 7nm+ is the likely node they go for.

As for threads, maybe they go for 4 way SMT, but unlikely on AM4 at the very least.

@grandmaster64

Intel just announced their 10th gen.

The 10700K will probably be the best choice for gaming if you want the ultimate best experience until Ryzen 4000 comes out

My 2700X is better.

Why? Power efficiency my friend. They process more and use less energy to do so.

Intel is not a green purchase. Forced performance on 14nm by sheer clock speed core count and lots of power. Looking at over 200w.

AMD 4000 series, expect like September'ish. Probably going to smash anything Intel can dream of for quite a long time unless they can shrink that damn 14nm die already.

I guess I'll wait till September once both companies have released the next gen. I'll buy which ever performs the best. Which I think is the 10900k or the highest end ryzen4000

Well what about compare the 10900K to current AM4 lineup.

10900K (?? bucks) vs 3900X (400 bucks)

10c20t  ---------------vs 16c32t

Are either of them going to out perform the 9900ks?

We are talking single digit percentages here.

example. 14nm jump ipc.

8700K to 9900K 5% - Can be made up by tweaking and overclocking.

7700K to 8700K about 8% also OC the 7700K to similar clocks to 8700K closes that gap.

the 5% gains on the last few 14++++'s has been by clock speed. Look at the boost clock trend line.

So the 10900k may be faster by like 1% or 2% more than the 9900ks? That sounds great! From the news we have on it, its only supposed to be like 483 dollars. Which is cheaper than the 9900ks at around 1,800 dollars even if it goes down in price. The frequency looks like the only downside difference with the 9900ks having a higher one. Maybe if they make a 10900ks ill wait for that. Idk lol

Another reason I am not upgrading.

Still haven't found anything my 5ghz 8700k can't crush game-wise :(

The i7-10700kf is the same configuration as the i9-9900k.

It is supposed to be $349/1l but it will be higher msrp

Using my 8700K strictly for 3D benchmarking, I'm in the 5.4ghz range.

Memory frequency anywhere from 2000mhz to 2150mhz.

I prefer my 2700X as a daily driver. The core count is nice. I have the power to game stream, leave a bunch of chrome tabs open, maybe even a virtual server or two. Don't let me kid you, most of those threads are just chillin. lol. But it runs cooler ultimately. Stock cooler is fine. No tweaks needed over the XMP profile. Set it up and go.

I don't wish to have a 3000 series chip. Maybe not even a 4000 series yet. I was actually thinking to wait it out all the way to DDR5. Which, at my age.... isn't far away lol.

yeah, i'm not terribly lucky with mine. 5ghz is the highest i can get without stupid voltage. 5.1 at 1.42v. no thanks.

i spend more time on my 1600 tbh. it's plugged into my TV and i play most of my steam games on it. i should really upgrade the GPU on it.
