Hi, I own a hotel and built a PC for it. It had a drive issue. When I looked at the PC I saw that it was very dusty so I decided totale it home and do a deep clean. Everything was going great until I had to remove the cpu cooler, I undid all the screws and pulled on it. It didn’t come off, I then decided to remove the backplate (incase some of the screws were not fully unscrewed). I added some more force and... it came off. But when I lifted ... there was no cpu in the socket. The cpu is literally glued onto the cooler I tried to carefully remove it, but it’s really stuck.

Ps: the cpu is fine (3 Pins are very slightly bent)

Any suggestions on what to do ? Or should  i just try to contact amd.

Will try a few other methods, but yeah 😂

it happens sometimes with AMD CPUs, you can try to remove it but be careful not to bend the pins.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

heating, twisting, and some dental floss may help a lot. AMD paste is famed for being rather concrete-like, unfortunately.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

This is known to happen with AMD CPU's.

Easiest way to get the CPU off the cooler is:

1. Hold the CPU very carefully! You don't want it to fall

2. Get a thing piece of thread (like floss) and run it inbetween the CPU and cooler to break the bond between the CPU and cooler

3. the CPU should be free now

Again, be careful the CPU doesn't fall or flings away.

Some people also do this with a stuff card, push that inbetween the cooler and CPU.

I can see several bent pins in the first picture.  Be mindful of it when you put the CPU back into the socket.

Use dental floss between the cooler and the cpu to deprecate it hit make sure you are holding onto the cpu so it doesn’t fall.

Use a credit card to straighten out the bent pins before you put it back into the socket.  You’ll be fine as long as you don’t cave man that cpu.

The factory TIM is like old bubble gum, you can use acetone to help dissolve it and that will soften it so you can work with it.

You can start by adding a few drops of it to one side and slightly tilt the cooler so it tends to go toward the chip. I'd try that a few times and then try the floss trick. Big thing is to get it started and once it does it will go alot easier from that point.

Do beware of getting any acetone onto the CPU fan, acetone dissolves plastic so that is why I didn't say just pour it on the chip and cooler.

If nothing else works you could for the sake of it remove any and all plastic pieces from the cooler itself such as the fan, fill a small pan/bowl and then place the cpu and cooler with the chip facing down into this, making sure you have enough acetone in to cover the cpu completely but not much more than that in the bowl/pan.

Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and then try to remove it.
If it's going to work that will do it.

After that, let the acetone evaporate, fix the pins, reassemble the cooler and so on.
