27" 2560 x 1440 Monitors

Geekazoid

so why even bother with 1440p then if your not gaming or doing serious work?

well, I've been thinking about shifting my work from two monitors to one, and a 27" 2K monitor would help me do that.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Yeah cheap... 1100€. No it's a 60 Hertz IPS one.

Eeep I hope you can power it. There's no scaling so it's either 4k or nothing.

No, I haven't used one before but I have seen them in stores, quite big I know. I did say that I haven't completely decided on getting one yet, I'm just toying with the idea.

Yeah I was in the same predicament. Things are always vastly different when you get them home compared to in store, luckily I managed to score a Samsung MVA 27" monitor on eBay for $140.

In a single monitor set up it seems great but I don't think I'll get a 27" when I buy dual displays.

so why even bother with 1440p then if your not gaming or doing serious work?

You get a lot more area to work with, it's easier to open two windows side by side, and if you're grabbing a 27" it has a nicer, crisper display.

Have you put any thought into one of the 21:9 monitors?

Well if you are going to replace a work monitor get a 27" 1440p, that makes much more sense.

no kidding, but to be honest it doesn't make that much of a difference than 16:10 24".

You get a lot more width. 1920 vs 2560. That's 25% more. The 16:10 24" just gives you more vertical viewing space.

yes, I would not argue with that. My point was with a 27" 1440p, the real estate is more but doesn't real make a difference from a 24" at least not to me.

Okay so using the site Display Wars » http://www.displaywars.com/ « I compared a 23" 1080p 16:9 and a 24" 1200p 16:10 monitor against a 21:9 29" monitor and these are the results:

23" 16:9 1080p display vs 21:9 29" display:

You should be able to tell that a 29" 21:9 display gives the exact same amount of width on either monitor.

To answer anyone's question, I have been thinking about getting a 21:9 monitor and the one I've been thinking of is the ASUS PB298Q. I seem to keep coming back to 21:9 displays, I wonder why that is? Anyway, I am seriously thinking about going with that ASUS and whilst you might say there are cheaper alternatives, I just feel like the ASUS would be much more sturdier given the extra width.

Okay guys, thanks for all your help, every one of you, but I've decided to stick with the decision I originally had gone with and that is I'm going to stick with the ASUS PB238Q 23" IPS display to pair with my build later this year. Thanks again for your help, twas very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Geekazoid

Have you ever used a 27" monitor before?

I bought one to see how it was. I find if you're any closer than 1.5 - 2 feet from it, it's a little too big.

Spot on! I find the sweet spot if you're within 2 feet of the monitor is 24"; any bigger and it can overwhelm you and your workflow when you try to make use of your desk. If you've got a little more space, like say 3-4 feet from where your head is to the monitor, 27" is amazing.

I voted I "own" one, because there wasn't an option for using one, which I do once a week at my Web Development job. They've got a 27" Apple Cinema Display that I hook up to my laptop using an adapter for the days I am there. It's great, but only because the desks in the office were custom built in Kelowna, BC for a newspaper office, and thus are huge. I'm talking full 72"x36" big.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, RTX2060) Mobile: OnePlus 5T | REDACTED - 50GB US + CAN Data for $34/month
Laptop: Dell XPS 15 9560 (the real 15" MacBook Pro that Apple didn't make) Tablet: iPad Mini 5 | Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 10.1
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 | Panasonic TS20D Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)
