Its an "egg cake" or what its called in english:D 3 eggs whisked together with some ham, cheese and tomatoes (or whatever you really like) and then thrown on the pan. Makes for a good breakfast!

This is so cool. I can't wait to see the finished outer thing.

Me neither man!

I am fairly sure he made it himself. Posted about it earlier in this thread.

Its my own design.

I drew it up in Autodesk Inventor, and 3D printed it. Bying a Phantom is like bying an Alienware pc. You get a much better one if you build it yourself. Then you also realise that it is not a toy.

You can find more pictures on my website www.hps.dk

Exactly :)

It is almost an omlette but not quite

Ahhh that was the word I was looking for!

i like that build

Glad you do:)

Looks fantastic, what kind of weights can it carry? What was the overall cost?

I agree about building yourself, though I personally have no knowledge when it comes to these kinds of things, or even using design software... so that would be pretty difficult

Me and my friend were hoping to lift up things like a D800 for example

It can carry a kilo and still fly great. It can also carry 2 kilo´s but then it moves like a bus filled with bricks.

If you want to carry a dslr, then you want to have a bigger platform that can carry more kilos. And then you are into the professional market.

The overall cost for mine was around 1100$. This is not counting in the countless crashes and spare parts I have bought.

If you want to take photo´s with a GoPro, small quad´s are fine. If you want proper pictures with a DSLR, you are into a completely other budget, and knowledge range.

I also knew absolutely nothing when I started building one. But read up on the rules for using them before you start. Far to many people buy these things as "toys" and makes the rest of us look bad :)

did you mix the egg with water and salt/pepper/sesonings?

Not with water. But salt and pepper yes :) It kinda varies from time to time what sesonings I put into it:D

Both

Budget is not necessarily important, but if they can be built for a decent price it means I could get multiple platforms... depends what I decide to do

Exactly :)

Actually looking at that image that is a really neat design. You even printed a part to hold the ESCs! I would probably just have used zipties. Lots of zipties.

Kind of want to make a quadrocopter now...

(sadly flying them out of sight or fpv is not legal in germany and you need an insurance. Meh.)

Just make a subsection of p0Pe's food, and gadgets, and I would be so happy. That 3d printed HDD cover, you should upload the file so I can print one too. ;)  Looks great! +1

Budget is always important. Most pro platforms runs at about 6500$. But knowledge about what you are doing is even more important :)

Thanks! Its my fift revision of the design. And I have been optimizing it along the way for almost two years:D

Haha, I dont think I could start enough threads to keep it properly populated. I am only one man:)

So lets get started on the thing that should hopefully make this build really unique!
I finally got all the material home, and got some time to start on the final stage of this project - the outer shells. Peter AkA Myrizzle, a good friend of mine, was nice enough to help me out with these as he has access to some fine machines, and the skills to use them.

The parts you will see in this update is the "rough" side of the panels. Meaning that they are the sides that will be sitting in towards the case.

Milling time for the top and front was around 15-20 min, while the big sidepanels was around 30 min.

1.JPG

Starting out with the top panel. This is a massive chunk of solid aluminium, and most of it will be chipped away.

2.JPG

The machine of choice. I want one of these so bad!

3.JPG

First off, we had to make some new clamps, as the existing ones was not wide enough to hold the panels.

4.JPG

The clamps was made so that they are just mounted on top of the existing ones, making for easy mounting.

5.JPG

A bit of programming. This is the boring part that you just want to be done with:D

6.JPG

The new clamps had to have a slot milled into them to keep the panels in place, and at a fixed hight.

7.JPG

Zeroing the machines XY and Z axis

8.JPG

Some of the tools used.

9.JPG

This proberly being my favorit. This 8 mm can chip away material at an insane speed:D

10.JPG

We started out with this huge cutter for face milling, but since the plate was so wide, and hard to fix in the clamps, it made a lot of vibrations, so we eventually switched to the 8 mm cutter.

11.JPG

Roughening out with the 8 mm. And yes, there will be a video of this, hence the GoPro mounted:D

12.JPG

Finished result of the top piece. Now we just need the other side, but that is going to take a lot longer than 15 min!

13.JPG

Overview of the top panel.

14.JPG

The two big holes will be used to mount the plate on top of the CaseLabs S3 case. The small ones will be for mounting all the panels together.

15.JPG

Finished, and put next to the cake that kept us running:D

16.JPG

On the front we used the 8 mm cutter for the face milling. You can see the pattern this created in the next few pictures. It also created a lot less vibrations in the material.

17.JPG

wiping away cooling fluid. It makes for a nicer finish, and also expands the life of the cutters.

18.JPG

Here you can really see the square pattern the face milling created.

19.JPG

Another shot of the result.

20.JPG

And guess what!!! It actually fits onto the case:D This was an especially nerve wrecking time, as there where a lot of different measures to keep taps on when making these!

21.JPG

Another shot. I am dying to get this thing done!

22.JPG

And a quick picture of one of the side panels. These things are HUGE. And HEAVY!

23.JPG

And they take up quite a bit of space inside the mill:D

Thats all for now guys and girls! I hope to bring more soon :)

Amazing, don't know where you live but I hope your machining prices are ok, in Australia they are nothing short of ridiculous, then they complain we get stuff done offshore, go figure.

I live in Denmark. And I am quite sure that machining prices here are quite expensive compared to... well... everywhere else LOL!

Yeah. The frame is a quite sturdy aluminium frame:

Its so clean. Looks great.

Thanks! I hope the panels will not ruin the "cleany-ess" or what its called:D

I am trying my best to get some time to get the rest of the panels machines. And I can hopefully show something soon!
