best motherboard for i9 9900k

Guest
Go to solution Solved by jones177,

I used a AORUS Ultra and it works well with 5ghz on all cores.

This gen I would only buy AORUS. Last gen I only bought Heros.

Expensive and unless you're planning some real exotic shit, probably pointlessly so.

Depends, what are you planning to do with it? Custom loop with big OC and/or do you need a specific amount of port for storage or something? Uless you shit money you could probably better spend only like 200 on a mbo and the other 400 on a better gpu (unless you already have a RTX 2080ti).

The ASrock Tachi is pretty solid and reasonably priced. I believe Gigabyte also made some good boards too. I'm going off of VRM quality though since overclocking.

I'll be using an AIO such as corsair H150i pro, medium overclocking.

basically I'm running into extreme gaming performance, 4-8 USB ports are perfect.

That seems fairly conservative for our community. Plenty of choices there for what you're looking for, I don't have a specific suggestion of the perfect mbo for you on hand though. I would suggest watching some material from GamersNexus (specifically a mbo roundup from Buildzoid, maybe it's on his own channel, actual hardcore overclocking) where they look at the actual components and the layout. You'll have to see what the further features are (Sata ports, NVMe slots, etc) for yourself. You should be able to find what you're looking for for 200-300 dollars.

Edit: It's the video @scottyseng refered to I think. Afaik, not much new, better mbo have come out since it was made, but I'm not that into the Intel mbos since a few years. It begins even with Buildzoid saying that he isn't considdering every feature.

Aorus Master and then Aorus Extreme (Waterforce - which shouldn't interest you).

Aorus lineup has the strongest VRMs at different price-points. I would recommend Aorus Pro (WiFi) upwards; the VRMs are pretty similar and overkill. Just get the feature-set that fits your needs. Someone suggested Taichi and that's also a solid shout. I think the Aorus Ultra and Aorus Pro (Wifi) (I believe that's the one below the Ultra) should be fine, maybe Aorus Master if you have the need for a rich and full feature-set and an upgrade on VRMs.

Asus Maximus Hero XI seems like a solid board under 300. Aorus might be cheaper though and better if you want to oc heavily. Just be aware of the high dpc latency on their z390 boards which probably wouldnt be noticeable anyway.

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x,  MOBO: ASUS TUF X570 Gaming Pro wifi, CPU cooler: Noctua U12a RAM: Gskill Ripjaws V @3600mhz,  GPU: Asus Tuf RTX OC 3080 PSU: Seasonic Focus GX850 CASE: Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh Storage: 500 GB Inland Premium M.2,  Sandisk Ultra Plus II 256 GB & 120 GB

Asus Z390 boards are awful in terms of power delivery for value.

I have the Asus Maximus XI code motherboard with my 9900K.  It's been right around 6 months with the board and so far has been doing well.  Not great driver support and can say that some of the Asus software is glitchy at best, I wouldn't recommend this board if the on pcb leds are a requirement. All of the leds in the "maximus" and "code" emblems on my board have quit already and it seems to be a common thing.  Other than that the hardware itself runs good.  I daily drive the chip at 5.1ghz all core on water, the vrm's get a little toasty (60c) when running F@H or benchmarking but the heatsink design does well considering I don't have any fans blowing on them.
