New RTX 2070 Super crashing on changing settings

Hello LTT Forum,

i am coming to you since i have some problems with my new RTX 2070 Super. I just got this model from Gigabyte (the 8GB Gaming OC version) and it is running just fine and i can feel the upgrade from my 1060 6G (also from Gigabyte).

The problem i am experiencing is that whenever i change any setting in MSI Afterburner or Aorus Engine the complete system freezes, its like it is suddenly under 100% load (but there is no load) until it just black screen's out and i have to hard reset. Dies does happen on any setting, also fan speed or anything else. The same goes for Aorus Engine (which is by gigabyte). Also the PCI-E PSU Power indicators are off (means stable psu according to the doc of the card).

I am currently worried that there is something wrong with my card. It is advertised as around ~1800 MHz boost frequency but i am only getting a constant 1605 MHz under load.

Did anyone else ever experience such problems? Should i return the card and get a different model?

I am using the latest nvidia driver. latest msi afterburner, heck i even reinstalled windows 10 and reconfigured my whole machine just before i opened this post.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what could be wrong? I am looking foreward for your answers ?

Have you tried without Afterburner installed?  I'd imagine having Aorus Engine and Afterburner installed at the same time could conflict.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

I kinda did, before i have installed Aorus Engine i tried with only afterburner with the same results.

But nevertheless, just uninstalled Aorus Engine and tried again witht he same result. I changed the fan speed and did no apply but pressed the reset button (to reset the changes to the ui) and even that does result in the gpu crashing. The whole system becomes unresponsive until the blackscreen.

Edit: I have never experienced something like that and i did always build and setup my computers myself. To me it seems like the gpu settings are locked and changing them does either crash the driver or the card itself if thats possible.

Checking the System-Information in NVidia Control Panel (lower left side) it shows a boost frequency of 1805MHz. AIDA64 & Afterburner are just only reading out <=1605MHZ

So it turns out i too had that DCH driver. I did the suggested steps and now i have the current non DCH driver. Sadly, this did not change anything. No matter how much i stress the GPU out it stays at 1605 MHz. Even in GPU-Z. It stays on Idle. Also MSI afterburner or Aorus still crash the system.

Edit: I have also set energy-plan in Windows & NVidia Control panel to maximum performance. Also here is my nvidia system info:

Its an 650 Watt Corsair CS Series CS650M Modular 80+ Gold but i dont think that its PSU. As i said the power leds are off indicating that power is just fine, also i can not change anything, even downclocking or undervoltng what should require less power.

Just did so, i saw that there is another bios floating around the net but since gigabyte does not provide an obvious download to it (searched everything) and i am not planning on bricking it, i sent it back to the vendor to replace. Luckly its within the 14 day period where i can refund without any reason.
