Should I turn Dolby on or off?

PoshBoyGames

Is it good or not? Sounds better for me but I can hear more background noise.

It's a preference thing, if it wasn't you wouldn't be able to change things.

I don't understand why people make such a big deal about drugs. Drugs are great! I just took some aspirin and my monthly migraine went away in 30 minutes.

What speakers do you have ?

2.1 System > No need for dolby

5.1 / 7.1 > Activate for a more realistic sound environment

Depends on the source, and he might not be using speakers.

Yeah- what everyone's said. If the sound-source was encoded /in Dolby lite (L/M/R), 5.1/7.1/9.1 and you have 3, 6, 7, 9 speakers (or headphones which are made to replicate the effect) by all means turn it on! Games/Movies use Dolby- A lot of DVD-A/HDCD/SACD etc. audio (music) recordings, particularly live concerts are "Dolby'd".

Most music is recorded in stereo- adding DSP "enhancements" might sound better to your ears. Keep in mind when doing that, you're hearing not what the musicians/producers intended.

A decent Analogy:

Film (video) recorded @ 24 FPS looks...like film. Televisions/Monitors that have the "smoothing" function (interpolation/bumping the rates up to 60 FPS) look like total ass. I haven't seen the hobbit movie, but that created quite the stir, being the first mega movie to be shot @ 48 FPS
